    Removing flush mount shifter?

1997 Faststrike 150hp. I am trying to remove the flush mount shifter out of my ranger 461. I have removed the 5 screws that hold the outer plate but I can't figure out how to get the shifter out completely. Do I need to remove the handle somehow from the back(inside the gunnel)?

oh they is a set screw on the bttom threw a little hole to pull the handle off ,you may have to rotate the handle to find it.

Toss the motor into reverse, that will give you access to the 1/8" head Allen set screw. Remove the phillips head screw that holds the shift lock out button. Don't mess with the spline shaft of the box will have to come apart to shift it back into reverse.
