    Waccamaw- Wilmington

Is it worth going? Seems like a gigantic bowl to fish in- not to mention fighting the skiers.....

Any tips/pictures/stories from the waters of Lake Waccamaw?

It is the largest natural lake in NC. Not very deep at all. 5-6 feet is deep water. There is some grass beds in the middle of the lake and piers dotting the rest of the shoreline. There is a feeder creek on the North end of the lake. Water skiers do in habit the lake during the summer. I fished it in early spring this year and caught about 2 dozen bass. The only problem with it most were between 10 and 13 inches. I did have one that would go about 3 lbs. I talked to a local who fishes the lake several time a month and he said that small fish have been the norm for the past several years. The lake does have it's on strain of perch that is call the Waccamaw perch. Years ago the lake was a very good place to fish and catching bass over 5lbs was not uncommon. Times have changed.

5-6 feet! Is the whole lake pretty much that deep....is it ok if I run around the lake with my engine? Any sunken stumps or flats to be weary about? Figured it was shallow, and best bet now is probably something in a dark color c-rigged....may try it out after this storm goes away

The lake is shallow in most parts. 6 ft. is the deepest you will find. I have never come across to many stumps until you get real close to the shoreline. Blue soft plastics on t-rig and small cranks to well for me this spring. It don't take much wind for that place to get rough.

sounds like a plan---what about Greenfield Lake in Wilmington itself? I've heard stories from that place, but never fished it. I know you cant use your engine in there, but you can troll around and the ramp looks decent. The cypress trees seem like a salavating place to through a jig around the whole lake
