Good fishing at night. If you trout fish there are a bunch of streams that you can hike into and fish.

Read somewhere that it was a good small mouth lake. Being that we've never caught any, my 2 boys are dying to give it a try. Problem is, we don't have a clue as to how to go about doing it. Drop shot, texas rig, top water late, what kind of cover to look for and so on...any suggestions? If they manage to catch one, they would be stoked for sure

    thnx

    Re: Fontana Lake (T MAN)

I have a pontoon moored @ Almond Boat Park and was out there a couple of weeks ago. I usually fish the lake in late winter or very early spring before heading to Russell/Clark Hill. Anyway , the lake is full and beautiful right now. Don't be shocked to see 50' water 50' from the shore. Lots of 200-300 ' water & 415 @the dam.
Most guys now are trolling deep. You might try trashy pockets for Walleye or
a Fat Albert on leadhead jig off points ? Work your depth down until you find them.
Trolling cranks in the creek channel around the points can work. Had some buddies
catch fairly good spots (thanks Ga.). last week on rubber in 5-10' , flat banks near
    Almonds.
Top water early & at night have worked for me. Jitterbugs .. Since your from the spot capital of the south , dropshotting or mojo rigs may be up your alley , there are also some bluebacks starting to show up.

Sorry I can't tell you more but I usually just go and kick back since it's only an hour from the house. I'll carry a rod in the 'toon for schooling fish this time of the
year. If you get by Almonds , ask for Mark or Jim (owner) they can probably
point you in the right direction...Good Luck

Thats where we'll be putting in at. Thanks for the advise. As for navigation, is it pretty well just open water? At 2 to 300 ft deep, you'd think it'd be safe. Anything out there to lok out for??

    thanks again

Shouldnt have any problems. Most of the spring floaters are out of the way but keep an eye out. You will be putting in on the Nantahala and soon merge with the
Little Tenn. river. From here, headed down river for a couple of miles is usually the worst section for any trash. Have had a lot of heavy storms & rain that may change things . There are a few shoals/underwater island but they are marked and
    probably 40-50' deep by now.

Hope you catch some fish but you will sure get the scenery around. Good luck & safe trip !!
