Lake Townsend Info

Currently I do most of my fishing at Randleman and Oak Hollow and I know pretty much what I can expect from each of these lakes (at least at my skill level).

Randleman - 15-30 fish but not much chance of a fish over 3-4 pounds.
Oak Hollow - 3-10 fish but a decent chance of a fish over 5 pounds.

I was wanting to try Lake Townsend because I had heard there were some big ones (10+) in this lake. What I could use some help with is, how does it fish compared to the other two lakes (numbers/size potential) and what are some of the more effective patterns? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

BleedingBlue, I have lived in G'boro for over 25 years I guess. Moved up here from a little town in Louisianna called Slidell. As long as I have lived here in Guilford County and bass fished just about every lake in the state Lake Townsend, Lake Brandt, and Lake Higgins are 3 lakes that I just have no need to wet a hook in. I myself wouldn't waste my time on any of them. Yes, from what people have told me, there are some good fish in these lakes but I have not seen them. Once in a while you hear of someone that lucked out but not recently. I had heard a friend say he pitched plastics dark color. Yeah Randleman 15-30 fish but hard to get many that measure. I found a city lake that is tough but is good fishing in the area called Lake MacIntosh in Burlington. got some chubbs in it and will test your fishing skills. When I got to get on the water to get that fix for Bass fishing I go there. A lot better fishing there than Townsend for sure.

Many thanks Speadtrap you probably saved me a wasted trip. I've not been to Slidell but have spent a bit of time in the area. The company I work for has a plant in Garyville, LA which is about 1/2 way between NOLA and Baton Rouge. Would love to spend some non-working time down there and get into the redfish. Glad to help I just haven't seen or caught a keeper fish in any of the Greensboro city lakes. I also think that the way Randleman Lake is being and has been managed in the past will be the same way. It really ticks me to pay the $15 to launch a boat, fish all day catch 15-20 bass and only have 2-3 that measure more than 14" much less 4# or better.

Being "ticked" isn't very healthy. Relax and just enjoy the day on the lake.

There are some toads on Townsend. I know of two over 10 there this year one was weighed at the office. I have never been there, but I am sure it is like any lake you have to learn it to catch fish.

No Buzz I ain't getting on the soap box. I am sure there others that feel the same. I do like the lake and do catch fish when I do. And there are big fish on Townsend, but I haven't seen one only heard of them. I do not fish the Greensboro, NC city lakes(except Randleman Lake) except once in a very very while. <u>My opinion </u>is there are a lot better lakes within 75 miles of my home in the G'boro area that are better. Fish them if you want I do not. There Buzz I did get on the soap box after all. You been to Badin lately?

buddyclub -- Where at in Slidell? My sister lives just off Old Spanish Trail not to far from the I-10. Got a mother in Camillia Gardens assisted living facility also in Slidell. Not long been back from MardiGras in God's Country.

Spead, I've only had my boat out once this year. I just had a three day weekend, and did mega yard work instead of fishing.

i know its close to i-10. i personally have never been there. my uncle lives there and works for folgers.

If you ever think about making a trip to visit consider flying and renting a car. Right know with the gas prices I have flown down there many times to see my Mother. I do not fly into New Orleans either. To much congestion. I fly to Gulfport, Miss. Round trip plane tickets and rental of a compact car is just at $600. I have do all kinds of math and no way to drive from here in G'boro to Slidell for that. Lot of good folks in Slidell. Just a nice medium size city across the lake from the "Big Easy".

Ive fished Townsend some and its a tough lake. Havent fished it in a while, but I work right down the road and come to the lake before work and sit and kill a few minutes. I have seen several toads this year caught by the local gurus as I call them that fish there just about everyday or when I come by. Dont count this lake out at all. This time of year seems to be good for a hawg there. Ive been coming by for the past several years and I must say Ive seen quite a few really nice bass weighed in, and just about all have been released. Like I said its not a numbers lake but the size factor will be in your favor.
