If it was local and I didn't have my own tournament or trip that weekend I probably would. It's fun, you get some swag, and see a different perspective of the waters you (presumably) already know. It's not like they're charging $1000+ for it.

I would think BASS loses most of their marshals to FLW. FLW's deal is pretty sweet. They get a chance at a new boat.

They can just put cameras in the boats. No marshals needed.
So why has BASS been short on marshals for certain events? And that was with all the top names fishing. With most the top talent now gone, there won't be nearly as many guys willing to pay to ride as a marshal.
Guys pay thousands of dollars to attend Baseball fantasy camps....I'm sure some will still pay...I did it on LSC and if you consider the price of other entertainment like Football, Hockey or concerts it is a bargain..
I probably wouldn't do it again....3 or 4 days of getting beat up on big water is enough for me..

because SD has almost no bass fishing community and i was not going to pay for a scary ride with no say, if it was free i would have been there or apparently if they were giving a boat away

I was gonna Marshall Hartwell for the first time then they scheduled bfl on Hartwell the same weekend so I’d rather donate to that cause
I did last year and really enjoyed it. I now have no desire to do it now though.
No question it will be harder to fill the Marshal spots. Some won't care but some will and they weren't overflowing with them to begin with. The price I guess could come down but the problem with that is that without money invested the number of no shows the morning of will go way up. Raining, rough weather... f' it. Being short on Marshals isn't great but it's way better than no shows the morning of. At least the angler knows what the deal is and isn't waiting by the dock till the last minute.
I wouldn't do it for free. For starters most people driving like freaking idiots, and I imagine that is only worse when big money is on the line. I make a horrible passenger anyways. Everytime I ride shotgun I always press the floor for a brake pedal but there hasn't been one there yet.

Yep...I'm the same way..a couple boat accidents will do that to you.
