    Power Pack

Anyone have any experience with Serria or CDI power packs? My 97 150 Intruder seems to be having power pack problems. Going to do more checking before I just change it out. It is the original unit and it has some of the symptoms that I've read of. It cranks fine one time out and the next time you turn the key and the engine spins but won't crank. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and it fires as soon as you touch the key and it will be fine for the rest of the day. Put a new fuel pump , water separator ,bulb and hoses last fall. This has been a problem since I got the boat 4 yrs ago but it also doesn't show up all of the time. Put a new ignition switch on also a couple of years ago. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Don't have an answer or knowledge about the Sierra vs. CDI. But how much was the fuel pump?

It is definitely your power pack. Mine did the same exact things, worked when it wanted to.It was bad when I bought the boat, didn't realize it at the time and the owner had NGK plugs in it, got worse and worse. Put a used one on and hasn't missed a beat for three years. Too bad you didn't post the question 4 years ago could have saved some money. CDI has a good rep. on rebuilding components I'd use them or a factory PP.

96 150 HP Intruder Same story but I needed the optical pickup as well as the pack. Drove me crazy one fall, same thing in the spring. Weatehr got warmer and it was perfect then bang, one day after running 20 miles up a NY lake 1 mile from the ramp shuts off, restarts and wont rev over 1500 in gear. Threw a compression gauge on it that was fine. It was the pack all along. It would have no spark in the colder weather.

I bought a sierra from georgia water sports {$144][called Boat N jet ski.com now] a few years ago and it worked till I sold the motor, that was the best price on one I could fine,it was doing the same thing ran good to the 1st spot and then would have ta wait 10 or 15 minutes till it would start again, sometimes it would just shut down going across the lake and have to wait for it to start.

    Re: Power Pack (rude power)

    Hi guys

I have been reading this thread and I have been having the same problems. On sat. I did a decarb on my 2000 rude 175hp ficht and after I was done I took it out to test and it worked great for the first 20-30 min then on the way back to the dock I saw the RPM's start to drop then it just shut off no alarms just died. I tried to get her fired up but just would not start do you think this is a POWER PACK problem or is it something else. I am taking the boat to the shop to have them do a check. If it is a power pack is that something that can be done at home or not? Sorry so long.

P.S. sorry to hijack this thread

I dont think any of us have a Fitch. Your problem is something different but still most likely electrical. Different motors.

That engine has a ECU and needs diagnostics hooked up to give codes...

    Re: Power Pack (Bassmeister)

Thanks for all of the responses. I'll be changing it and the optical sensor in a week or so. I've got a couple of far away fishing trips and I don't won't to be broken down. I didn't post it but it has always seemed to act up alot more in cold weather. We've had our share of cold weather this year in Georgia. The pump was 400.00 plus new hoses and pulse valve. The one small hose is about 25.00 but it is pre bent to fit the pump. I changed to the new filter system also.

    Re: Power Pack (97 HydraSport)

I bought the kit with the optical sensor and wires. Changed it out and so far it is working great. Got the kit from Boat N Jetski and they had it to my house in one day. Saved alot of money and everything fit perfect. Thanks for all of the help. Great deal for $260.00
