New 2018/19 Pro XS 4 Stroke Testing (150, 175, & 200)

the last 4 motors I have owned from Mercury racing had the engine mounted oil reservoir. I figure they might hold a quart which would only add a couple of pounds.
I don't know how much oil a new 4 stroke holds but I'm sure it's a lot more.

Last weekend, we weighed the new Mercury 250R V8 engine with calibrated digital scales suspended from an overhead crane. The engine was filled to the required oil level; however, no battery cables, harnesses, or cowling were attached. The engine weighed 534 lbs and the cowling (weighed separately) was 30 lbs. That's a grand total of 564 lbs when fully configured and a bit heavier than Mercury's advertised weight of 505 lbs. Given this, it is suspected that Mercury was weighing the engine minus the lower unit which would most likely result in approximately 505 lbs. It appears this is the same weighing process Mercury used for the 2.5 race engines years ago. Lee Sanderson has more knowledge than I on that particular issue.

The XTB-21 weighs approximately 400 lbs less (with a smaller beam and smaller rear pods) than the current XB-21 models. For those reasons and due to the engine weight increase, we do not recommend the 250R V8 for the XTB-21 models.

I would love someone to weigh the V6 and 4 cyl 150 this way.

Their advertised weight for a 250R is actually 520lbs and it only comes in a 20" shaft with the SM, so not sure how it's off 44lbs unless they're weighing it without cowl and prop? I assume you had a prop on?

No prop on the sport master when we weighed the 250R. As some people already know, Mercury installs the analog water pressure sending unit instead of the digital water pressure sending unit therefore we added it based on digital smart craft gauges in the boat. Mercury does not include battery cables or rigging tube with a new engine either, requires a clean power harness again not included with the engine, lots of little surprises with the new 250R engine.

Looking forward to see the results! I assume the tuning is done by Simon? I thought he only bumped it to 6100 or 6200?

So the 225hp 3.4L V6 has the same rpm range as the 175hp Pro XS version which is higher than the standard 175 & 200hp versions. They all share the same motor mounts and the lower units on the standard 4-strokes have the low water pickups in the nose cone just in black instead of silver. So the only real difference is the muffler making them a little quieter and 5lbs heavier than the XS version from what I can tell, hope that helps and someone can correct me if I'm wrong on any of it.
