i think my motor is blown...

as the title suggest. I was running her on muffs this morning cleaning my carbs when she shut off suddenly (very abrupt). tried to start her again and she would not turn over. After looking the motor over i noticed a lot of metal fragments on the ground near the prop. Definitly looks a like a piston...what now??? I could cry...

Oh boy does that suck! Not sure if that is a piston or bearings. Looks like a piston.

What was you spraying into the carbs while running? I always pulled them and cleaned by hand......

Bassmeister is on the money (as usual) spraying "stuff" into carbies while running will not clean anything except your wallet, and maybe any lubricant that may be in the cylinders, I also think it would be unlikely that parts of a piston would get as far as coming out the exhaust at the prop, if the engine was running at idle, but you never know, it certainly would be possible I guess, and expensive.

I had that same thing happen to my Yamaha except while out on the lake. When I got the boat loaded I found pieces of aluminum sticking out of my prop. I over reved the engine and the top cylinder piston skirt was completely destroyed. I had to rebuild the entire engine; new bearings (since I was already in there), seals, gaskets, rebore the cylinder, put a new oversized piston and rings in it. Because I work for a dealer, I got my parts at cost, turned out to be $687. Otherwise it would've been $1340 not counting labor costs. Sorry to hear about it, especially since I've been there done that.

What about decarbing your motor? It is a BRP product and you spray it in the carb while you are running? Does this put you at risk of blowing up your motor? It is an official product that the directions tell you to spray while running. I couldnt imagine BRP would tell you to do something that would damage your motor. Am i missing something??

    Re: (daculatruck50)

The engine tuner has a lubricant to keep from washing the cylinders. Automotive carb cleaners, etc....Don't.
