4 blade or 3 blade prop?

Thinking about replacing my 3 blade prop. It's on a 1998 18 foot Astro with a 150 Mariner EFI. The 3 blade that's on it has a pretty decent hole shot and top end ( with 2 anglers and all the gear) is about 60-65 mph. I would like input...what would be gained or lost switching to a 4 blade?

Better hole shot, but lose a little top end is what typically happens.

Four blades tend to carry a load better and can handle better too. If you run rough water a lot or you tend to carry real heavy loads you'd probably like one. If you are more concerned about squeezing out every last MPH you can get stay with a 3 blade, have it blueprinted and balanced, and run it high on the jack plate.

I have a 19' Bumble Bee with a 200 Optimax' 10" jackplate and I'm running a Razor 4XL from Mark Croxton. These props are amazing, hole shot is awesome, handling and power is great from low end to top end, plus I didn't lose but a couple MPH on my top end. The Razor series of props are definitely worth looking at for sure!

Exactly the experience I had with a 4XL. Ran the same prop for 3 years and it looked like new.
