    OMC controls

I have one of those shift controllers for an OMC on my boat this is really just an arm that comes out of the side of the boat, not the normal removeable box.

Is there anything I can do to tighten it up? It has some slop I would like to get rid of, or is there a replacement that won't break the bank?

Also it is very hard to find neutral when the engine is trimmed up, which made my trailering kind of exciting if you know what I mean, nothing like having my boat in the bed of my tundra to end a fun day of playing on the lake.

    Re: OMC controls (Lockjaw)

I prefer the concealed mount VS the side mount box for rigging for a more custom look but that is just me. Sounds like from your ?'s that the rig is new to you so you have to get used to what you have. Once you do you will love it. It is basically a side mount box only the control box is hidden behind the gunwale. Sounds like your shift spring on the arm is worn out or missing this is easy to replace. you have to carefully remove the facia plate on the plastic side of the arm and remove the arm. On the back side of the arm where your shift lever is there is a concealed spring for lock out and at the bottom of the lever you will see a detent that it resides in when in neutral. The spring is on the back side of the main shift lever and the orange shift up pull lever. All of your adjustments are at the engine to in the control box as they are all on shoulder pins. The arm will pull towards you when you are seated to allow warm up of the motor move it forward untill about 1/4 throttle you are now at "warm up lever position". When the motor warms up pull the arm back to neutral and it should fall back in the slot.

Yeah that is it. It doesn't really stay in the pulled in position very well, and it is tough to find neutral with the motor trimmed up. I guess I had the motor up a little high when loading it yesterday, but I did not want to be chopping the ramp with my nice new shiny prop, if you know what I mean.

I like the way it looks, I hate the slop though. I guess I need to find a dealer and order a spring.

I am going to put a hot foot in the boat anyway. I already have the trim on a stalk thing installed, and like it, but want foot throttle control.

I hate taking something apart that is concealed.
