Can you just go to the Lake (LOZ) and sink brush without getting clearance from DOC?

    Re: sinking brush (tracy shannon)

Sycamore trees sink on there own.

I would also suggest doing it after dark, so others don't know your spots.

I went to the Corps office by the dam and was told to make sure that the brush would not be a hazard to other lake users, and to not put anything in the lake such as treated lumber that would leach out into the water. I did not get this in writing, and this was 3 years ago.

Re: sinking brush (Table Rock Spcl)

    Derek,
I make it a goal to put out at least one pile each day I fish. Usually carry a brick or two in the boat and sometimes a bow saw. If the fishing sucks, I put on my Paul Bunyan act.
Getting really sneaky.... my cousin, Bill, makes the Porcupine fish attractors. Since they are made of pvc, pipe, you can't find them with sonar or side imaging (at least I can't). Anyway, he's a generous fellow, and I've been building.....

Not illeagle that I know of. I would recomend wire to tie the brush to the brick. Another key is if you use limbs tru to stand some up and brick both ends of some so they lay down. I would not recomend christmas trees either. Just some recomendations based on my past experience.

Don't know about LOZ but I am pretty sure it is illegal to sink brush on Table Rock so I am guessing it might be illegal on LOZ.

    Re: sinking brush (mowigglewart)

I emailed MDC a couple of weeks ago and asked this exact question about LOZ. The response from the Fisheries Management Biologist for LOZ is below:

"Yes is is legal for a private individual to sink brush in Lake of the Ozarks. No permits are required. We do ask that you stick to either natural items such as cedars or hardwoods. Material such as old railroad ties and tires have harmful chemicals in them that can leach out into the water".

    Re: sinking brush (dchance)

Derek it is NOT illegal to sink brush on LOZ or Table Rock. The only suggestion I would make is bring your own brush. If you get out of the boat and cut brush and drag it in the water and get caught you will get ticketed for tresspassing and destruction of private property. I would also suggest using plenty of weight if want your piles to stay were you put them. The current gets pretty strong and one block will not hold a brush pile.
