    Re: Prop Shop (gambler209)

Have anything special done to the Gambler prop? I have a Gambler 2000 with a 225 Pro XS. I'm running a 26" merc 4 blade prop.

    There's also Joe's Prop shop in High Ridge i believe. 636 677 8705

The make of hull doesn't matter. a prop guy can get your prop running well to perform on your rig with performance info.
they normally need current prop make model pitch
    speed at WOT
    rpm at WOT
    setback
    motor height
    and water pressure

You can also get any prop blueprinted and balanced without any of the above info needed and many times that will help performance. No prop is perfect brand new and no 2 are the exact same. A B and B will perfect it for you.

Nick first place I would go is the Prop boards and the Setup boards as well as the Gambler boards. there you can get recommendations on what your setup needs to be for a starting point to get you close and also what prop typically works best.

If you are looking for more top end, a rule of thumb is that 3 blades are faster than 4 blades

    Re: Prop Shop (dchance)

I've read lots on the Gambler board, and my prop is doing ok. It's not the perfect set up, but the 4 blade prop seems to create much better lift than the three blade. The best thing I did to improve all around performance esp. holeshot was to add (cringe!) a hydrofoil which some folks dismiss, but I found it to work quite well with my G boat. I get 73 with the tail and 77 without it, but I get much better handling in tough chop and a better holeshot with it. The hydraulic jack is nearly 3 inches deeper in the water to get good performance with the foil which I found quite a surprise.
I think it's a compromise balancing out holeshot vs. top end. I can putt- putt at 60 at 4950 rpm so I shouldn't complain. Good mpg there also.
I've run a 27, but the holeshot is a bit sluggish except in winter where it's a decent choice. Thanks for the input.

    Re: Prop Shop (Nick H)

foil shouldn't slow you down as it is out of the water at WOT. You can also get a 3 blade worked to add more cup which will give you more lift and top end. That is of course if you are really serious about it.

I tell you what, there are certain situations where a foil is very beneficial. I had one. I had a heavy 19ft boat with a 200hp but it was an older 2.5 liter efi that really was underpowered as far as low end torque is concerned. the Foil help me quite a bit. It also worked great for night fishing. we have a 30 mph speed limit at night which can be tough to keep on plane at that speed without porpoising. the foil allowed me to stay on plane at the slower speeds.
