    Lake Ozark bass report

Finally! I had just about given up on green fish for the winter when wham, wham, wham happened the both Sunday and Tuesday. The jerkbait is really good right now. Totaled 102 bass in 13 hours of fishing. I've never caught 31 bass from one point at this lake until today. Took just 30 minutes to do it. Did not catch monsters but probably 20% keepers. Add in 8 or 9 big crappies and a few whites to make a really fun day. The Rick Clunn model hung right with the megabass for numbers if you've been wondering about the much more reasonable pricing. (I actually like the Clunn hooks better.)
I have surmised that the great action is due to the water dropping rather uniformly 2-5 inches for about a week now regardless of what that silly website days. The lake temps were 39-42 and the colder waters actually held more fish for us. Not every creek or bank holds fish, but they are grouped up well when you find them. More amazing today was the lack of wind did not seem to hurt the bite at all.

I fished Pomme last week but haven't gotten to go as much as I'd like. We threw the Clunn version a little bit but had problems with them suspending (and didn't have anything with us to try to weight them). Are you fishing them straight out of the package?

MidMo I fished them in about mid 40s last and they suspended fine for me right out of the package.

Everyone of them is different out of the package, I bought about a dozen and so has my fishing partner. Some take none, some take two suspend dots, some at half a dot. I've changed out hooks too, some float with a #4 in the middle other sink.

We've had goodluck with them but each one out of the package is different, of course water temp has something to do with it also but even on the same day they will be different.

Re: Lake Ozark bass report (skinny waters)

The Clunn models, like all the rest, need to be float tested in a vat of ice water before going out to the lake. The ones I have bought all needed some degree of weighting to suspend. Of course florocarbon vs. mono is another factor in the suspension of jerkbaits.
Upon very careful examination, the bill of the Clunn model is slightly smaller than the 110 (Wish it was slightly larger) so it tends to run about 6-12 inches shallower. Still, it's well worth 1/3 of the price of the 110. The three extra birdshot that Megabass puts in their 110 must account for the $18 price difference! LOL

Thanks for all the information on the jerkbaits. We didn't have any suspend a dots or lead in the boat - guess I'll have to before the next trip.

Leaving in a few for LOZ, I'll try and give a report this weekend if I get a chance. Was down last Sunday running a new boat for a friend and it was pretty good. Didn't fish alot but had 10 crappie and 4 keepers in about 2 hours in the Gravios.

Re: Lake Ozark bass report (skinny waters)

I had a tough day, caught 9 shorts in 4 hours. Closer to the dam the warmer but the creek arms up there were 45 the channel 43 to 44.

Not enough wind to push the bait up, found scattered pods of shad. Fished along creek channel sides and to the inside of points. The only thing I could pattern was got bit on steeper banks. If you got near a brush pile you could pull a short off.it but we never caught two off the same spot like last weekend. Needed wind!

Apparently I'm the best short fish guy on Loz anymore.
