Im in the market for a new boat for this coming season. Im curious about what guys might have to say about evinrude engines on their bassboats, good or bad. Maybe specific years, models, hps, that had issues. Or if you plain just love them. The reason i ask is where i am you dont seem to see alot of guys running them and im curious as to why. The boats in my price range are generally 97-2002 . Any help would be great
You'll get the general stay away from the Ficht 1997-1999 60* as well as the 90* motors. The Johnson carbed motors are solid as a rock both 60 & 90*. The HO series of carb motors pretty much kicks all other manufacturers butts in that class of carb motors. 2001/2002 and up any size block is a reliable motor but you need a PC with the software and cable to talk to it. This isn't your fathers Oldsmobile. It takes a trained tech to work on the new injected motors. Not trying to scare you off but just wanting to let you know. Once you make the leap from Carb to Injected there is a big difference no matter who makes it.
two of the boats im currently lookin at have 175 s and are both 1999's. any insight ?
The model numbers will let you know if it is a FICHT or carbed.
