    Fast Strike VRO questions

I bought my 1994 Fast Strike (J150GLERA) with the VRO pump un-hooked (premix). I didnt know a ton when i bought the boat but i believed the VRO wasnt on the boat at all like it was completely removed. I looked the other day and the VRO is actually still installed. It it brand new as well as the entire powerhead assembly when i bought the boat (new powerhead had 2 hours on it when i bought it). That being said i put about 15 hours on the motor before i winterized her and put her away. I have been thinking of hooking the VRO back up to avoid mixing gas and getting the correct ratio all the time because premix is constant 50/1 and the VRO varies with rpm i believe. Is this a good idea?? I heard it can be bad to run the VRO with no oil going through it.

Is there anyway i can get the VRO vacuum tested to ensure it is working correctly?

    Is my VRO the VRO2?

Would you johnson gurus do this or would you continue to premix as it is not that big of a deal and i have more piece of mind. I think the VRO actually uses a little less oil on average too right?

On a different note if i choose to not hook the VRO back up can the VRO be removed for the motor and still allow the motor to run or is it incorporated into the fuel pump?

    What is that plug?

The plug in your hand is the OMS/VRO plug. It is the newer 4 wire plug but there is no way of telling which pump you have. Your best bet if you want to start using the oiling system again if to buy a new pump,I know they are high but I don't set prices, the part number you need is 5007420 you can find them online less than the suggested retail of $398. Make sure everything is aok.

Im a college student i cannot afford a new pump but i definitely cannot afford a new motor. I guess i will just continue the premix. Is there anyway i can take the pump off and sell it to someone that could use it or is in integrated into the fuel pump?

And there is no way to test how well it works i believe it has about 10-15 hours of no oil going through it usage and about 3 yrs old. I bet it works perfectly but i have no way of knowing for sure and i don't wanna blow anything up.

The service manual has the "VRO" vacuum-pressure tests, the oil flow test, oil alarm test, and the oil prime test procedures all explained in it.

you can keep your pre mix inthe gas tank and put oil in the vro tank through out the day check your oil level in the tank you can also get a pressure and vaccume tester and run a clear line so you can see if the oil is flowing through but the first optionis always the best since you hav not ran it in awhile im pretty sure you have the vro 2 pump they started making those in 86 or87 i hav the 2 on my 88 jhonson gt they say they are better but i mix mne to be on the safe side

premix your current fuel, reconnect your vro, fill your oil tank to 3/4 full and mark the side of the tank with a magic marker. go run your boat. after a couple of hours of running check the oil res. see if the oil in the tank has dropped past the line. if so your vro is working. I can tell you now that it is more than likely working if the fuel side is connected, and you are running your engine. because your using it as a fuel pump. on the internal diaphram oil is on the front and fuel is on the back side of that diaphram. i have read that it isnt good on the pump to just use it as a fuel pump only.

i personally would never premix. i will always use my vro until it needs replaced
its a sound pump with very few issues.

if you are testing to see if your vro is working and you are pumping oil and pre-mixd to you are going to smoke like a misqueto (sp) fogger.
