Couple small lakes nearby that are not bad at certain times of the year. Oktibeha county lake, Lowndes county lake are state lakes and you can check them out at mdwfp.com and Noxubee refugehas a couple lakes. They drained the best one to get rid of all the lilypads but its supposed to be back up soon. Tenn Tom 30 minutes away. Bay Springs about an hour 45 away and pickwick about 2 and a half hours. Wish I was back up there fishing all the time.

Okay....as a MSU grad (unfortunately ) and as a fellow who let's say is "in the area" from time to time, there is several options for fishing.

Oktibbeha Lake - Got some lunker largemouth and some big flathead catfish in there. Its about 5-8 miles west of Starkville on hwy. 82.

Bluff Lake and Loakfoma Lake - Not too much to loakfoma , but Bluff has some decent fishing.....got a lot of weeds and trees to fish around. Located on the Noxubee Refuge. Its about 10 miles southwest of Starkville on Oktock Rd.

Columbus Lake and Aliceville Lake on the Tenn-Tom Waterway - Got pretty much whatever you wanna catch. They are about 30 minutes east of Starkville in Lowndes County

And there are tons of farm ponds scattered throughout Oktibbeha County. Just need to ask the landowners persmission. Some of em got some dang good fishing in em.

I left in '02, but at the time we had access to the golf course at 82 on the edge of campus. The pond was chocked full of grass, but we caught several good Lm on scum frogs. Also, the pond behind Sanderson center had just opened and it was pretty good at the time. Otherwise, some of the spillways at the refuge were fun. Good luck to your son, I had many great times during my five years in Starkville.

if you can get access to browning creek then you're gauranteed to catch some big bass. It's the subdivison where all the big shots live. Off Oktoc Rd.

oh and congrats on your son making a fine choice in schools

When I was there 04-08 Loakfoma was the best. I caught more 5-8# fish there than anywhere else.

Also there is a large pond in a neighborhood right by the Horse park just south of starkville off montgomerey st. caught good fish from the bank there and nobody ever said anything to us about fishing it.

They have, or are going to reopen Locafoma this year. Browning creek turned over last year so isn't very good now, huge fish kill. I fish the Ten Tom waterway mostly Colombus, Aberdeen, Pickensville.
Starkville Bass Club needs non boaters, or boaters if he brings one.
Tell him to holler at me at Performance Automotive when he gets here my name is Chris.
