    Gulfport Lake

Went to Gulfport Lake today (sat) for the first time. I was mostly just scouting around for a club t coming up in two weeks but did catch a few dinks. The tide was way out and all the shoreline structure was high and dry which made it tough for me. But, I learned how to navigate. I went up the biloxi river a little ways but didn't have any luck. The weather ended up being pretty nice though. All in all, it was better than sitting at the house.

the lower the water the better. Fish will stack up in the mouths of ditches and deep curves. It also exposes under water structure that you would never know is there. If you can find a hot chocolate colored bandit then get it. Also a shad rap. This time of year just throw a crankbait and jig and you'll catch fish.

Dang. I didn't try a jig and lost my shad rap on the second cast. I have a mission now to find a brown bandit. I thought the guys in the curves were speckled trout fishing.

has to be hot chocolate... they don't make the color anymore.

they probably were trout fishing, but the trout have moved way up the rivers. I sent you an email

Did a google search and apparently they still make "hot chocolate". I just ordered some. I found several tackle places online that had tons of bandit colors I never knew existed. The big retailers must just carry a handful of colors.

by the airport. It's not a "real" lake but is connected to back bay and biloxi and t-buff rivers. Gulfport lake is really the name of the ramp.

Thanks Derek, I was looking at the media schedule and wasn't sure. I guess you mainly fish the bayous over there? I'm not fishing it anyway because I'm having my Rotor Cuff repaired next week. Maybe in 4 months

you can fish the bayous or run up either river. There are guys that run from gulfport to pascagoula river on a regular basis.

As bad as I hate to admit it, I zeroed. One guy caught a limit, and second and third place caught 2 each. It was a tough day on the water. I never even had a bite to clue me in on anything.

dont feel bad Brian, I caught 2 fish saturday in one spot. I talked to a guy that fished that day and he's a good stick. He only caught 2 fish as well.

Funny how tough fishing was there, and on Pearl River there were 3 guys that weighed in over 12 lb.

I placed third in a 100+ boat TX on Gpt Lake once with on fish weighing .74 #'s. Winner had 2 fish at 2 lb, second had one fish at 1.1 Tough when the bite is off, next trip, you might catch a 100 dinks.
