    92 200xp high speed miss

bought a boat 2 months ago, it cuts out at wot when rpms get above 5100. it has been doing this since i bought it. compression 92-95, last week tach stopped and it quit charging. replaced the rec. and the stator. that took care of the tach and the charging but it still cuts out at wot above 5100. if i let up on the hotfoot just a little bit it will not cut out and the rpms climb to 5500. I also changed plugs and vro is disconnected(was done before i got it). any ideas?

Humm figured you were bumping the rev limiter. Run it and hit the choke when it stumbles if it picks up then it is a fuel issue if not then it is electrical.

seems to be a fuel problem. When I idle a while it will not get on plane, shut engine off and pump bulb it will run great untill wide open, then starts missing. replaced all fuel lines and bulb. Fuel pump #428559 is on it, is this the correct pump?

5007420. $398.00 New. See if you can find a used one or one on E-bay or the parts for sale here on the boards.

You have a fuel restriction or an air leak in the fuel system. The proper way to test it is with a vacuum gauge hooked to a tee fitting inline with about 10"of clear tubing. Start with it at your anti siphon valve and work back to the VRO. Looking for air bubbles and little of no vacuum. Air bubbles equal air leak, vacuum (anything over 4") is a restriction. If you have over 4" of vacuum you might see air because the fuel is boiling in the lines. Find it ,fix it, once and done.

    Re: 92 200xp high speed miss (mrv8outboard)

thanks for all the help. after a lot of reading, I have a feeling the fuel pump (0438559) does not deliver enough fuel for this engine(ve200slens). this pump was on it when i bought the boat in sept. the constant alarm went off yesterday running around 5000 rpms, i am pretty sure it was fuel restiction. i have replaced all fuel lines, bulb and f/w seperator. ihave replaced thermostats, diaphrams behind the t-stats and t-stat seats and w/pump. i have 35psi pressureat 5000 rpms so i dont think it is overheat alarm. i will try the clear hose vacuum gauge next.

can anyone tell what that fuel pump is rated for?
    thanks again

If you have a fuel restriction that is causing the alarm the fuel pump has to be strong enough to create is i.e. fuel pump ok. Fuel restriction is just that find it, I told you how but at this point pull the pick up out of the tank and check it. Then check to anti siphon valve. Even try a regular nipple to try with the anti siphon valve (as a test only). Also when you reassemble it make sure the anti siphon fitting does not go into the pick up so far as to close off the port.

The vacuum switch for the alarm is T'd off the main supply line before the VRO pump. It's purpose is to let you know of a restriction so you do not encounter a lean out condition and cause internal parts to become external parts. The pump is driven via crank case pulses that operate the bellows in the pump.

Re: 92 200xp high speed miss (ChampioNman)

first off, thanks for all the help. i have 2 tank on this boat and the problem was consistant on both tanks, i checked the vacuum switch and it opened @ 6" of vacuum, so that seemed correct. I vacuum checked the supply lines for leaks, all good. i took the anti siphon valve out of the port side tank and it was clean and operated freely. i replaced it with a brass hose barb and ran it at the lake today and it ran great, but my concern is the fuel pump that is on the engine(0438559), is this pump enough to supply this engine? My gut feeling is it is not stong enough to pull fuel pass the anti siphon valve at higher rpm's. does this sound possible. i would like to put the vro back on to get it back to what it came with from the factory. so my question is, is pump 5007420 a higher volume pump than 0438559?

    Thanks again Ben

The volume is a consistent and and is measured by the crank pulses from the motor. If your bellows is not pumping up to snuff then yes a new pump is needed. You should have had a soft bulb first but not necessarily. Bubbles in the line will indicate your issue. The latest part number is 5007420 to my knowledge there are some internal changes to the pump.

Re: 92 200xp high speed miss (ChampioNman)

After more searching i have found that fuel pump 0438559 was used on 79-83 200hp & 235hp engines. But they used 2 of these pumps on these engines because 1 is not enough. this pump can be used as one on engines up to 125hp.

    hope this helps somebody.
