What did I Do?
Can you run 100% syntehic oil mixed 50:1 in the tank for a 1993 Johnson. I did this now motor want hardly run, sneezing alot when idling, give it the gas and it starts by taking the gas then just starts to die. Put new power pack on it in feb. Any thoughts ? I put 20 gals of fuel, star bright enzyme fuel treatment(2 oz), and about 8 oz of sea foam in thank? Did I do something wrong. Also put on new fuel filter on a month before this trip with new fuel line and buld boat been running fine, Ran fine for about 30 min.

What oil? As long as the mix is 50-1 It should be ok as far as that goes. Check link and sync, look for fuel leaks, and throttle roller adjustment

Pen. 100% syn.
It will crank and idle fine besides the sneezing, When you give it the gas it starts up and then just plows the water like it can not get up then it starts dying down. I put a new pack on it in Feb. What esle could this be, I had problems before like this in dec -jan, replaced the pack and it ran fine unitl now. Also I check the throttle roller adjustment then also.

Re: (Bassmeister)
I really doubt the oil is the problem (if you did mix at 50:1) how long has it been since you did this? I am sort of thinking that you have a problem that was either there all the time, or just happened by coincidence

Tom...I'll give you a situation I ran into a couple of years ago, it may or may not apply to you.
I had a 90 hp Yamaha on a 15' Bomber bass boat. The motor ran great. Half way through a weeks vacation up in Maine, I ran down the lake to go fishing. When I started the motor to go back to the camp, it had developed a real bad sneeze. You could put it in gear and idle, but give it gas and it would die. Finally got back to camp (2 hours later) and went through everything. Could not find anything wrong. I finally had a mechanic come down to look at it. He listened to it and said "you have a lean sneeze". He made a few minor adjustment to the air/fuel mixture screws and told me to take it out and try it (I thought he was crazy). Just could'nt be that easy. Took it out and it ran like a cat on fire. Never had a problem with it again.
Sorry for the long post, but it was a situation that I'll never forget. Hope it's as easy a fix for you!!! Good luck!!
Just can't leave well enough alone!!

I mixed the new oil and things the night before tourney, maybe a flute!!!! but I have no idea. I have no clue if a johnson has a air fuel mixture screw, I am going outside right now to get the model #... Could a bad coil do this? does it sound electric,or gas problem? I am getting compression est tomoorrow and i will post #'s

Could be a bad load of fuel, pull the airbox off and pump the primer bulb and check for leaks too. Can also mix up a portable tank with 50:1 and give it a spin on the H20.
You would have to have them all messed up. Maybe a fuel pump gone bad.

if it's the first time you've run carbon cleaner, you could have fouled plugs.

Re: What did I Do? (gilly)
already checked plugs, and new filter. How bad is it to put a fuelpump on, and how $$$$$.

Re: What did I Do? (JeffA)
OK guys, compression # are 112 lbs on all six, (everyone is the same)
. I pulled the bowl drain screws and let drain and flush like stated champ!. Cleaned plugs and made sure Gaps were correct. I did notice that the throttle roller adjustment on the top was about a 1/2 from touching like it should so I adjusted it where it should be. What is the link and syn. (is it when hotfoot pressed check to see if the butterfly are straight?) if so I did and they are all correct. Have not run it any yet,
If I grounded a test light to the starter ground and touched the metal in the spark plug wire as the motor was turning shouldn't it light the test light, none did!!! Thought I was not getting fire there, reinstalled plugs and motor fired right up. I'M LOST NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!! What next? Thanks
The red fuel valve on the front of motor should be pointing down CORRECT?
