I'm on 49 about 1.5 hours away. How would I get to Gulfport Lake ? I recently went to Chotard, it's 2 hours away so I figure I might could make it to Gulfport !

head down 49 to Gulfport and take a left on Airport Rd at the light, there is a Ford dealership on the left and it's just past wal-mart. Go past the airport and the road will run into a golf course/stop sign. Take a right and then take the first left, it's only about 70yds. The left dead ends at the ramp.

Hey ! I'm interested in being part of ! I have a few questions

Is the water brackish, If so will it hurt my boat ?
Do I have to have a salt water license ?
My insurance is set up for non saltwater use of the boat .... what about that ?

Also, My buddy says he doesn't like the idea of not pre fishing. Can you tell me enough about the lake's spots, streams into it and stuff so I can convince him to go !!

The water is brackish, but we fish there all the time. Get on Bing maps to look at it. It's not actually a lake, but a configuration of bayous and rivers that head to the gulf. You will not void your warranty either. You don't need a saltwater license. I would stop by a car wash on your way home to rinse off the salt if ya like. The water is affected by tide... I checked it for that day and it's a slow rise. Tide fishing is a lot different for you yankees.

If you're north of I-10 then you're a yankee to us. But seriously I don't know anyone that likes to fish tidal water that didn't grow up on it.

Re: Gulfport Lake Fruit Jar (mdb128)

How does an insurance company tell you where you can run your boat at? I didnt know you had to get a different policy to run in salt water But knowing insurance companies it dont surpise me .... Your right Derek if you have not grew up fishing these tidal rivers and marshes chances are your not gonna like it... We are having 2 TX on the pearl Sat. one at Hwy 90 and another PRSC TX upriver. I would take you up on the invite if it wasnt for that. Good luck to you

Re: Gulfport Lake Fruit Jar (PRO XS Skeeter)

I don't know much about tidal fishing but I know enough to know that Saturday is going to be tough. Not much tidal movement at all.

Derek, thanks for hooking me up to fish with Chris.

No problem Kevin... the tournament is actually being used as a recuitment tool for our club. Our season ends November so any new member would have a fresh start very soon.

Cool, i'm interested in joining the club. I'll get info from you at the tournament. By next year I'll be more familiar with the area and will have my boat set up the way that I want.
