99 Rude 225 Ficht project motor

a member on here decided to let me throw some money away. so i ended up with it. can one of you guys run a check on it for me MOD E225FPLEEO SER G 04662671 from what i know it had a t-stat stick @ 80 hours and messed up the starboard side. all pistons were replaced and for the last 19 hours it has run like a champ. till march when #1 popped a hole in the center of the piston. dont know what size it is , or if its OMC or Wiseco...will find out soon.....all other cylinders 145 PSI. i have my manual , and am ready to tackle this project . ALL advice appreciated .. and needed......

I guess you have some outboard rebuild experience? if not then this is probably not the motor to learn on, the actual "nuts and bolts" are not too different from any other outboard, but being a Ficht, it does have a lot of "tricks" that will require either some outside help, or experience.

Re: 99 Rude 225 Ficht project motor (noelm)

dropped the heads today and #1 is gone and looks like it will have to be bored , problem is all 3 pistons on the starboard side are NOT OEM, they read STBD EXH 2322 and in the center 030......while the port side stated 439357 PORT EXH 11-23-8B.

IT looks as though Wiseco makes an 040 piston kit , but is not available at this time ... CALLED THEM , THEY SAY 4-6 WEEK WAIT

who should i look to in the Bham area to re-sleeve #1 ??

    Todd,
That part number is for standard bore piston. You can go .030 over and use part 5000763 piston kit. You'll get a piston, rings and wrist pin. You'll also need needle bearings for the wrist pin. OR you can call Pro-marine USA and get a LA Sleeve (866-398-7096). Any good auto machine shop can do the job for you. They will need an oven to install the sleeve though. Pro-Marine also sells Wisco pistons.

Todd, I sent 6 down last spring and the total to check all out and repair 2 of them was $980.00 and that includes the disc to load the new coefficients. Call them and they will give you a quote.

99's don't need a co-effcient disk. They are plug and play.

I happen to have an '01 Evinrude Ficht. My dealer just checked it out and says I blew cylinder #6. Time to part it out or sell as a whole. If you need extra parts for your 99, I may have an option for you. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: 99 Rude 225 Ficht project motor (toddgot5fish)

I'm sure you already have the oem repair manual. If not, get it.
You should probably get new rod cap bolts. I've heard they can stretch when torqued.
As for the socket, it is just a 5/16 12 point. Go on ebay and get a 3/8 drive snap-on.

I borrowed the rod cap alignment tool from my local dealer. They were very helpful.

Make sure you wash the block with super soapy hot water. I used dawn "super grease something..."
I washed and rinsed mine several times then blew it out with compressed air.
The sleeves will begin to rust immediately, so have some xd50 or better go give a good coating.
A coating everywhere inside the motor is a good idea.

It may serve you well to buy some parts from the dealer, so they will be more inclined to help you.
