In the past this lake would give out 30+ lbs fish in spring tx weekly. BASS even had it one year as one of the top 100 lakes. Last few year not as often does it give out that much on a regular basis. At the hay day of this lake it had grass growing 20 to 30 feet from the bank, pockets full of lily pads which made for some of the best frog fishing any where. They drew it down to work on the city water pumps and killed off most of the pads and grass. Last summer I was on it and the grass is starting to make it's come back.
Would it be worth the trip at the end of March? YES There are a lot of brush piles, trees in 20 feet of water and a jerk bait getting anywhere close to them and fish on. There still huge fish caught in this lake. It also has good quality walleye and crappie.
I have never been in the cabins but hear they are up to day and clean, boat ramp with in walking distance. Very easy walk to water edge with boat slips. And fire pits to set at and watch the sun go down.
I know it's a little further dive for you but Table Rock is my favorite early spring lake. There is a lot more locally to do. when not fishing. In Maryville there's nothing.
