    1993 Johnson 150 Fast Strike

I just bought this motor from a man that had the entire powerhead rebuild 3 years ago and from the repair shop he put it in storage and only used it 2 hours the weekend before he sold it to me. I am starting the breaking in period from the start i have since put two tanks or 36 gallons through it. My motor doesn't have an hour meter and i cannot really estimate hours well.

How many tanks (18 Gallons) or gallons would normal use during break in get me to the 20 hours. Not looking for an exact science here just looking for something to help me know I'm at 20 hours so i can stop using double oil.

I'm using XD-30 and Sta-bil(marine) in the two tanks i have ran so far and she purrs like brand new. I want nothing more than to take the best care of her i can.

The 04 manual states to double oil during the first 10 hours. I would estimate between 10-15 gal/hour if you run at cruising to upper operating rpm range.

My 93 model states 2,8,10, and 20 hour intervals. They all determine on throttle. no throttle, 1/2, 3/4 and full. They require double oil up to 20 hours. If im burning 10-15 gallons per hour that would mean about 20 tanks or 10 double tanks until i was through the 20 hours. That seems a bit much. i think about 20-25 gph if your running 3/4-full throttle right?

When I run my ETEC at about 3500-3700 RPMs, my fuel management states approximately 10 gal/hour. I suppose if you let it eat, you could double that consumption.

About 4 tanks should get it. The key is to vary the RPM and don't make any sustained WOT runs before you have 8 or so hours on it. Once your get past 4 hours you can start to open it up just don't leave it at a certain RPM more than 15 minutes. And Don't lug the motor. Keep it on plane.

I haven't had it to the floor yet and have run two tanks through it. I keep it at 3/4 or 4500-5k mostly. My motor will never be on plane for more than 10 minutes ever mainly 5 minute runs. Im on a relatively small lake and cannot keep it wide open for very long. Does that sound ok? I will start to go WOT for a couple minutes at a time next tank or tank #3. I think im going to run 6-7 double tanks through it or 7 gallons of oil.

The motor normally takes 50/1 so 25/1 is double oil correct? that is one gallon of oil to 25 gallons of gas while im on double oil?

If you've had two full tanks at 25:1 you are ready to run 50:1 but give it a break by varying the RPM's no sustained WOT until you have a suspected 8.

I have actually ran 4 18 gallon tanks 25/1 through it or 2 36 gallon tanks (since my boat has 2 18 gallon tanks). I have already put 20 hours on the motor in 2 36 gallon tanks?
