hi guys new to the site! my 225 fict evinrude will not go forward but can go in reverse! i ended up breaking the cable trying to adjust it so i need that for sure now!
i pulled the lower unit an it will shift in nuetral,forwad an reverse just fine....spins both directions, does that mean the lower unit is good??? an i need to check cable,shifter, or a sensor maybe???
i also have a hot foot throttle dont know if that has anything to do with it???

I would suspect a bad shift cable the hot foot cable(throttle) has nothing to do with the shifting. Install the LU, hook up the linkage and spin the prop with your foot, and shift the gears and see if they engage. Troubleshoot forward from there.
thanks!!!! the long drive shaft that goes up to the motor has a wobble to it(side to side)??? is it normale to have a lil play?
Hopefully gearcase man will chime in, He is the man with Evinrude gearcases.
bit difficult to diagnose, but it seems you may have had a minor problem, then started pulling things to bits and now we don't know where we are, did you try disconnecting the gear cable and shifting the lever on the motor by hand before you removed the lower unit? that is the first test that should have been performed, if not, try to get it all back together again without miss adjusting anything and start again, you say it shifts OK when apart, so maybe the gearbox is OK.
