    Trenton Detroit river/st clair/erie question...

Thinking about fishing a bit next year around trenton. Probably put in just across from grosse ille on the MI side. More than likely will be in May. Which way should I go, or should I just stay in the river? Mostly be fishing for smallmouths and whatever else I can talk into biting.

Pretty much everywhere is on fire that time of year...Erie, Lake St Clair, and the river....If you are puting in at trenton you could try your hand at a few Walleye in the river and when you get bored with that head out to Erie for some smallies..That combo makes for a great day.

Let me know when you come up to Trenton...I plan on going out of there a few times early in the spring..
Have you ever done any vertical jigging for walleyes on the river??? It is a great way to catch a quick dinner.
There is alot of good smallie action right at the southern mouth of the Detroit river so you don't have to run to far.

I've never fished it. In-laws live in Trenton though.

Most of my walleye fishing has been in shallow spillways instead of in a big river. Current probably about the same, but water is deeper.

Depending on what you want to target, and what type of boat you have, would dictate a lot where you launch. I wouldn't bother driving a boat up the river from
Trenton to fish St. Clair for smallies or whatever. I would just launch somewhere else. The river can get rough later in the day.

thats what I was wondering. My boat isn't all that big, just 18ft. Probably will just stay south and fish the river and erie.
