I recently moved to the south side of Chicago (Worth) from out of state, and do not know any regulations to fishing the forest preserves in Cook County. Is there any permits needed? Other than a fishing license?
Thanks for the input.![]()

All you need is a standard fishing license, unless you fish for trout or salmon. Then you have to buy an inland trout stamp, or a salmon stamp for lake michigan. Other than that you should be good to go! You can usually pick up a rules and regulations booklet wherever you go to buy your lisence. OR check the Illinois DNR website.
Thanks. Any I should fish vs. one's I should stay away from. Thanks again Muition. Much appreciated.

Find some good water for us and we'll have to get together!
Welcome to Crook County!!!Im guessing you moved here for work because I don't know why anyone would move to the Chicago area by choice.
Anyway the Cook county forest preserves get pounded pretty good by meat hunters but you can get into some every now and then. Retention ponds in Subdivision can be really good, I would look for some of those before I went to a FP. Turtle head lake @ 147th & harlem used to be OK 20 years ago I have not been there since I was a Kid. There's another one off 127th (I think) just east of harlem. A guy I used to work with would hit it on his lunch break said it was OK. Then there is some of the bigger ones west of you Tampier (supposed to be good Walleye) and Maple Lake. FYI all cook county FP lakes do not allow gas outboards on boats. There is a couple you can take your own boat but you cannot even have a gas motor on it. Oh Yea if you do go to a FP do not back your car in... The rumor is thats the sign your looking for some man lovin

If you do have a boat though I would be hitting the Cal Sag. There is a launch in Worth you can get up to Lake Calumet and out to Lake MI if you go through the locks. the channel itself can be good too right by that water purfication plant.
I grew up in that general area and my first job out of college was in Bridgeview but I have not really been that way in a long time. If you havn't yet go check out The Pit a Bbq joint on 95th and I think roberts road (just west of Harlem) great BBQ!!! feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. my info on that area is pretty out of date and my memory aint the greatest but I will try and help.
If you do have a boat, like the other guy said the Calumet River is the best fishing near you, outside of Lake Michigan if you like the big water. As far as Forerst Preserve lakes go, probally Tampier is the most known lake for fishing, i believe it is at 135th and Wolf Rd. roughly 7-8 miles west of Worth. Do not go wading in the forest preserves lakes you will get a ticket, dont ask how i found out.
Dont let the guys scare you about living in IL. it aint that bad.
