    S. Ill fishin?

Im in St.Louis and used to do alot of fishin in smaller lakes in Il. I am wanting to fish Carlyle Lake but have never been there. Whats the scoop on fishing it? Id love to fish Coffeen but my outboard is to big so I need bigger lakes close to home. Seems like all the lakes in Mo. are far and few as far as driving distance...

    Thanks, Brandon

Don't be afraid to fish coffeen with just your trolling motor. The launch area has plenty of fish.
Carlyle, avoid when windy several launches you must pay to use. The lake is lined with rip rap Peppenhorst branch offers the most structure. The lake is loaded with white bass. It is VERY popular with sailboaters.
At the North end it is shallow use caution especially on the North end of the tressel.

HMM. Ok what about Springfield, or Rend. Are they any better? Never thought about trollin Coffeen. I just figured Caryle was the closest. I am wanting to try out Wappapello and Clearwater in Missouri but didnt always want to drive 2hrs to go to a lake. I am not a river fisher, but a buddy of mine in Waterloo keeps tryn to get me to the Kaskaskia(sp?) River.

    Thanks, Brandon

Like you know how to catch fish at Golconda Larry....you havent figured out that you gotta lock to win

I thought you meant Southern Illinois...Caryle is a good ways north of me.....3+ hours I believe.

The only thing I fish in Illinois is Egypt in the fall, winter, and early spring.

But then again I can be on Kentucky Lake in about 25 minutes.

Fishing on Rend can be good. You do need to be aware of the weather as the lake can get extremely rough if the wind picks up. Get a good map and have fun.

Although the bass fishing has rebounded some on the Kaskaskia those flying carp are a mess to deal with. The river level flucuates allot and scatters the fish.
