    problems with 2000 ficht 175

Hoping to get some advise in regards to problems with my 2000 Evinrude 175 ficht serial # G 04876380. Haven't been able to use same since third week in July. Initially problem started when going down lake after fishing in rain soaked tourney. Motor simply shut off. Attempted to start engine but nothing. Wouldn't turn over and various lights on tach would not come on. Did same thing numerous times then eventually turned over and made it back home.

Next time I went out started fine fished for a bit. Started up to go to another honey hole motor shut down once again like before. Attempted to start and nothing. Then would turn over and shut down after 1/2 second or so. Then wouldn't turn over. No tach lights again. Eventually started. To make long story short it got to the point where it wouldn't even turn over. Took same to mechanic and they put it on the computer. They advised that they didn't see any trouble codes that could be causing the problem. They felt it was the emm. Motor has 383 hrs on it. They sent emm away to Wisconsin to get reprogrammed? Got it back last Friday took it out on lake and it started. Ran a little rough at initial take off. After my third run down lake after letting off throttle engine shut off. Once again same problem. Engine would catch but not run. Then other times nothing when you turn the key. Took boat back to mechanic yesterday. They put it back on computer. Now the funny part. Apparently the guys in Wisconsin had sent back an emm from a 2004 200 but had put the sticker for my emm on the wrong one.

I guess my question is what the hell is wrong with this thing and if it was the emm why would it have the same problem with a different emm. Any help would be appreciated as once again I have spent over half of our prime fishing season without a boat.

It sounds to me like you have a problem with your ignition switch. Turn the key on and no self test or lights, Starts and dies as soon as you release the key. Started happening when it was raining. My money is on the key switch being bad. This link may help you to troubleshoot it. http://continuouswave.com/whal....html Key switch is about $35.00!

thanks for the info. I did mention that to the mechanic and he said they had hooked a switch directly to the motor? I will check out the link and then advise him of same. I will try anything at this point as I am supposed to take my son in a tourney on Sunday.

I had a very similar problem with my 2000 ficht 150hp. It was a bad ground at the the PDP. If I remember correctly there are two wires together that ground to the PDP mounting bolt. somehow or another the hole was stripped and it was making a poor contact. I repaired the threads and used a stud & nut and washer and nut combo. worked perfect and problem solved. Maybe you'll get lucky!!

Your model number probably ends with " EE " not " 88 " and that means your motor is a 1999, not a 2000. The EMMs are physically different between the 2 years. What is the last letter of your model number on the engine tag as it determines which mid-year changes your engine has?

Damn ! I just realized that I got suckered into an 8 month old post that was resurrected.

I am not trying to hijack this post but I do have a 99 150 E150FPLEEA that has a very similar problem as the person who started this post. My boat is currently in the shop. Per:my mechanic when he sent my EMM to Evinrude they would not rebuild an EMM with the part #586463 but would sell me a new one. I have a 99 small block 150 Ficht.

My EMM was shipped from Evinrude back to my mechanic. Then my mechanic is sending the EMM to DFI technoligies to get it re programed...all this is still in process.

To the orginal poster do you know the part number of your EMM?

The PDP is subject to solder fatigue and you can re-solder the connections or have DFI technologies do it for you.
