    Non-Resident Boater questions

Hey guys. I'm planning to make the trip down to Braidwood for a couple early tournaments this season. Your season opens up 60 days before Michigan! Are there any odd boating rules or registration type things I should know about before heading down? I checked the DNR site and couldn't find anything directed at a non-resident boater. cheers, Ken

    Re: Non-Resident Boater questions (Sharkey)

Hi Sharkey, I can't think of any thing that is out of the normal when in comes to non resident boaters.

I would suggest that as an added precaution it would not hurt to bring along an extra copy of your registration and insurance papers. Beyound that come on down and have a good time.

Meant to ask you the other day if you ever hung out at Jack's there at the Holiday Inn.

sometimes, but not too much. usually we are at Old Boys across the street. If not there, it's GH at the Kirby House.

I liked the Grill Room, I actually know the Chef there both he and his wife. I also used to hit the Theater Bar for Sushi. There are a lot of good placed to eat up there, and believe me that after living in a hotel 4 days a week up there for 7 years I have hit most of them.

I noticed that. I found a map and it's pretty shallow for the most part. I would assume you can run down the East side towards the cut on the South, but it looks sketchy.

The last time I was at Braidwood it was a nightmare. The conservation police were acting like absolute morons. I personally watched them give about 10 tickets out in the parking lot alone. They inspected my boat for 20 minutes after I pulled it out. They were looking for anything and I mean anything that they could write a ticket for. They checked my batteries then my battery cables, registration, exp date on fire ext, hell they lady officer even laid on her back and crawled under my trailer to see if I had and weeds on the trailer before I left the parking lot. When they could not find anything, the women wrote me a ticket for casting in an off limits area(which I have no idea what she was talking about). She said she witnessed this from shore? If you are an "out of stater" make sure you have everything in order. You may look like an easy ticket.

    Re: Non-Resident Boater questions (tincanj)

good advice. The tournament director sent us an email w/ the off limits areas, and i found them on an old map. I'll make sure I keep my cables tight (why they would give a crap about that, who knows), and weed free!
