    thanks munchie, haha.

Cleaned and re-gabbed the plugs last night. Took it out for a spin, no difference. It just has no low end guts to get me out of the hole.

Once she's up it screams to 80 with ease. But its not much good to me if i always need my partner to jump on the front deck :(

    Re: (DOUGMCGEE188)

Anybody had the updates done yet??????? Talked to two friends last night from other states that had it done and they say it didnt help much on the bottom end if any. they both say accelerations is even better than before but couldnt tell a noticeable difference on holeshot. they were curious if anybody else has had it done and saw a difference in holeshot.

Dad took the boat in yesterday while i was away. But apparently there is two sensors that needs to be replaced.

One apparently will fix the overheating, and the other will apparently fix the terrible low end power.

    We'll see what happens there.

Re: survey 250 HO issues?? (munchie)

I had issues after a period of time with my holeshot especially with the livewells full on my Z520 w/250 HO. After about a month my holeshot went to 12 seconds and I realized the water was warming, which can effect holeshot, but I could not live with this. I was on the phone often with Ranger and Evinrude, even conference with both. There were suggestions made that helped some but not enough. We took it upon ourselves to solve the problem and took about 6 props to the lake for testing. At the suggestion of Evinrude, we drilled the exhaust ports larger on the Raker which didn't help. David, our mechanic, felt that a Tempest 24 would be the answer. We took out 2 of the the 3 plugs. It came up in 3.5 seconds with 2 people and livewells full. We also tried Tempest 26, Trophy, Fury 26, another Raker and a couple others I can't recall. There was no competition for the 24 Tempest with the exception of the 25 Tempest. I stuck with the 24 Tempest because I liked the holeshot with 69.5 w/ livewells, 2 people, and tournament load. I was headed to Champlain and needed a quicker response and added handling. My own theory is the blades are thin on the Raker and it was losing it's cupp or the blades were flexing under heavy loads. I'm extremely satisfied now with the entire package, but I couldn't always say that.

Scott I'm telling you, you need to try that 24 Tempest. Borrow one from a friend don't just take my word for it. It makes all the difference in the world and it stays that way. 69.5 with everything, livewells, gear and partner. Runs about 56oo rpm and handles better thtan the Raker. I don't know the answer for every other boat, but if you're not all about speed and looking for overall performance, this works on a Z520. I hope this helps.

Re: survey 250 HO issues?? (boogerdoc2)

I got this partial update going around at clark hill two months ago. this is not the fix that is coming. it made only a little difference.picked up rmps enough that now i am underproped but didnt reall y help holeshot issues. i contacted the brp guy and he assured me that the fix we discussed then is still on its way. i am confident that the person i am talking to is as far up the repair chain as one can go. that is , if he doesnt know what is to come, no one does. this partial update is a direct result of the first issues brought up by doug mcgee way back when. brp guy said this update helps some motor/hulls more than others. just shows how far mass dealer updates run behind teck crew updates.

Re: survey 250 HO issues?? (majorbass)

This 250 HO experience has been absolutely flabbergasting! Seven props and I'm still not getting the performance I expected. The holeshot has been a real issue. A 26 Raker II with light load does fair, but, add a partner and fill livewells and the partner has to get on the deck and 9 secs later you get on plane. I've tried 7 props (26 raker II, 28 TXP, 27 Tempest, 28 Trophy B & B, 24, 25 & 26 Fury and a foil. All the Fury props solved the holeshot problem. The 24 Fury had way to many rpms and poor speed (61 @ 5800). The 25 was better with 65 @ 5800 and the 26 is 5 sec holeshot, 67 mph @5800 (72 @ 6200. In the summer the best I found was the TXP with a foil and lowering the motor. It would run 72 @ 5900 rpm and a 5 sec holeshot. I haven't tried it since the cooler temps have arrived. Right now I have the 26 Fury with the motor set as high as I can get it on an 8" JP. The motor can be raised one more notch but I am not sure that would help as I can max the rpms where its at. The most encouraging report I have had is from a guy who was having issues with the new '10 power head on his '08. He said the new powerhead didn't give him a holeshot and he lost topend. After drilling the 24 raker holes he then had the fastest Ranger on the lake. My next attempt will be to drill the holes on the Raker II. Have spent $2150 on props and still not satisfied. Good news is next spring I'll have some cash flow when I decide what prop to keep and which to sell!

    Ugh,
    Larry

Good luck with the exhaust port drilling, it didn't work for me. It could work for you. I think it's got a lot to do with the boat manufacturer and even the model. I'll share your info with our mechanic and see what he suggest. He was spot on for my situation.

Thanks I need all the help I can get. Got word from one guy I need a 26 Tempest Just tried the TXP today without a foil and all the way up. 72 mph @ 6200 rpm with a ROTTEN holeshot. SO far the 26 Fury is winning the contest.

Re: survey 250 HO issues?? (Bass Counselor)

I am curious from any dealer that have run the 300 ETEC as well as the 25HO if there are any issues with it? I know water skiiers LOVE the hole-shot of the 300 but they typically run a 17" prop on a tournament Ski-boat. I ask this because it is based on the 3.4L powerhead as well.

This is disheartening to hear of so many issues

Since my last trip to Anglers Choice mine has run great, I raised the engine a 1/4 of an inch to see if it made a difference. I gained a little speed but the handling was a little funny so I dropped it back down.

Man with that much slip sounds like you are too high. Garfish has a toon and gettin upper 70's. I ran a 26 fury on a BCB Puma at 83 but holeshot sucked. It was ok with one person but with 2 i would drop to a 24 and it wasnt good but better and still make 78 with 2 people and a load. To me the furys liked less engine height than the tempest i ran. But those rpms with those speeds sounds like you getin an awfull lot of slip. My 200 ho on my 188 champ runs 71 with 1 person load in the cooler temps with a 25 fury.
