Review Of Lake Springfield in our paper today

Says it may be the best in the State for numbers of bass this year. Shocked up 100 a hour. Here is the link http://www.sj-r.com/outdoors/x...Lakes

Change anybodys mind about coming to the rally?

    [B] LARGEMOUTH BASS
Lake Springfield looks to be at the top of its game.

“The largemouth bass population continues to be one of the better populations in the state,” Stephenson says. “Excellent numbers and body conditions are found in the bass in the lake.

“During the past 15 annual surveys, we have collected over 100 bass per hour of electro-fishing, which is very high for a lake of this size — maybe the best in the state.”

Lake Springfield’s 15-inch bass average 2.25 pounds. That’s 30 percent above the statewide average of 1.75 pounds.

Stephenson said this holds true for all weight classes, owing to Lake Springfield’s strong forage base of gizzard and threadfin shad.

“The only downside to the bass population is the apparent lack of large, 4-plus-pound fish,” he says. “I say apparent because I seldom get any fish over 18 inches in length, but the bass fishermen have begun taking very large fish.”

Stephenson says he has received pictures of 7.3- and 8.5-pound bass caught last spring. Two fish weighing more than 7 pounds were caught last November.

Our first Club Tx this year, April 11th will be on Spirngfield. I hope that the reports are correct.

I am not sure but I believe that our tournament director said that our permit for this year had us launching from the marina. In the past we have always launched down by the main ramp.

It is only a club Tx and would guess from past experience that we should have between 10 and 15 boats at the most. Our club is Champaign County Bassmasters, how about yours and how many boats do you think you will have.

We are going out of Lindsay Bridge ram. We normally only have about 6-7 boats. We are Lincoln Bass Club.
