    First time on Lanier

A little help please.....While I have been in GA/Coweta Co for 12+ years, I have yet to put my boat in Lanier.. I hope to get up there this Monday.... Any pointers for a first timer?? I plan on hitting the south end of the lake....

Hey Shawn, send me the same mail! I've got to take a guy out fishing friday that hasn't been fishing in 10 years. I need to put this guy on a fish someplace!

Just stay off the shoreline and you will do fine. Trust your electronics, when using the worms and jigs, and remember that anywhere you see brushpiles etc is also a good place to toss a topwater or jerkbait as well.

Always have a rod closeby with a big topwater on it for when schooling fish appear, but don't be afraid to toss it out even when they aren't schooling.

Fish deeper than you would on other lakes

Re: First time on Lanier (Bass Hawk 87)

    Well, let's see...
    1. Left the house at 0500.
    2. Fueled up the F150 (left the headlight on for 5 minutes or so and found theat my battery was TIRED.. needed a jump.
    3. About half way up I85... I realized that I left my map and GON notes at home.
    4. Stopped at Walmat (to get a new map) and 1st bathroom break (too much
    5. 1st marina I was looking for appeared to have gone private.
    6. 2nd ramp was closed for the season. DNR guy gave me "directions" to a year round ramp on the Buford side. Needed 2nd bathroom break. (pre tournament stomach) If you know what I mean. sick:
    7. DNR's directions were bad.. FINALLY found the ramp near the Dam Store.. And a bathroom...
    8. Mustered up only 2 spots all day... Worked alot of points and humps in 12-25 ft . I didnt see much of any bait of larger fish on the graphs.. Didnt see much brush.. although I didnt do much cruising around looking for it.. tried chasing a few schools of ?? but no bites....I learned a bit about Shoal Creek. Right before going realized that they wanted the bait (Crig, finesse worm-Pumkin/gold gltr) presented real slow... But it was time to leave Lanier and fight my way thru ATL .
9....And on the way how in rush hour..... the kicker hit without and thump or other sensation....

    9. So I must have been flinging rummer at everyone behind me but no one seemed to care as nobody beeped, waved or tried to let me know that my tire looked like shreaded wheat..
    10. so the spare was installed (by someone other than me) with a lug-nut of different size to those on the trailer...and NO I did not have the correct socket.... Pump pliers wouldnt cut it... Took me 1.5 hours to change a spare.. I had snap the bolt holding the tire on as the nut was CROSSED THREADED
    10. So all in all, It still beats going to work..

Shawn, Don, I'm writing this before I read your responses.... thanks for the info.. I'll give em a shot next time.. turns our that my drive to lanier is just about an hour so I'll be making many more trips thru town. I stayed away from LAnier due to boat and I-85 traffic in ATL but a 0500 in the fall..... no traffic of either type...

Greg sounds like a long day. If you ever head up this way again and want some company give me a yell, as I am still out of work and home most days on the sofa.

The fishing should be getting better over the next few weeks as the weather continues to cool. Lanier really does have some big fish in it, and it is not uncommon to catch 4 and 5 lb'ers on any given day.

Re: First time on Lanier (ChampioNman)

Greg this can be the best time of year to hit Lanier, especially towards the end of October and through November.

When you hit the lake just right the action is incredible all day long

Fred I would have to get a lot bigger boat to guide here, and learn to spend a lot more time down south, which I am not sure I could ever do

Fishing is awesome down there, but the boat traffic and idiots everywhere would cause me wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much stress. I think I will just stay up north and be a river rat. Catch em sometimes, and sometimes you don't
