Re: Surf and Peir fishing (Schulze)

you need to check out what is going on down there first. It may be black bike days which is not a friendly time, there have in the past been riots and many indescressions down there. why not just come over to go fishing on hartwell or russell? a lot safer and cheaper
As for tackle if you are dead set on going, surf fishing heavy long rod to cast past the breakers , pier fishing a good stout catfuish rod will work fine and a c-rig or a drop type rig. Just drop down till the weight hits bottom and wait ( like watching paint dry) if blue fish are running, a good hopkins spoon on a bait caster med heavy 15-25 LB test, will work for them as they are not super huge in size but do give a pretty good fight as all forked tail fish do. Good luck.

    Re: (Schulze)

they have a black bike or beach days there when a bunch of people come and call it a " reunion" it usually ends up with the beach getting cloaed down and some nasty stuff happening. I dont know if they still do it but I know for many years they did kind of like what they used to do in Atlanta. Just remember when you catch a salt water fishy, they have toothy's and will bite a finger and such off. Only lip redfish.

Black bike week is something you definitely don't want to be near. Regardless of how many weapons. Three i promise you aint't gonna do it. Just be safe whereever you go.

    John,
I don't think they go crazy down on Tybee, they have a pier there and some cool places they used to have a great pizza/sub shop on the main drag. I stayed at the HOJO's there about 8 years ago. Nice little town. On the way in to the island there is a seafood place on the right on a gravel road the locals eat there Jackie and I "Feasted on the sampler for 2" oysters on the 1/2 shell and a few beers $50 and we could have gotten away with the sampler for one, 4 kinds of crab, corn on cob, smoked sausage etc it was great! Had a hole in the center of the table for your discards, very laid back place on a marsh. If you need surf stuff call me I have everything you could ever need, I fish the OBX in the fall for Stripers and big drum. But Tybee's coast is flat and not much will be in casting distance from the beach. You can fish Ft. Pulaski area and maybe catch a flounder or some pompanos (yum) with the flippin stick. I have a 10 Ocean Master surf rod and reel (spinning) you can use on the pier, or you can use my conventional setups I have a 11.5 Tica rod with a hopped up ABU 7000 that you can use also. CM

    Re: (Schulze)

Come on down! Savannah is a great place to visit. Except for the week of St. Patricks (unless you like green beer and thousands of drunks) and the week you were refering to is a college reunion week but it is no big deal if you are armed. I live 5 minutes from Tybee and can put you on some of the best seafood places in the area. Why go surf fishing here when some of the best bass fishing in the state is within a 45 min drive. Check the biggest bass from GA in the record books and you will see that more of the top 30 heavyweights come from right down the road than any other place in the state. Not to mention some of the best river bass fishing on the planet is here. I should keep quiet on here. I like not having boat traffic and fishing for 6 hours without seeing another boat. 24 lbs won our clubs open tourn last year. Interested? There is some great saltwater fishing as well but my bass boat is going to stay out of that destructive salty stuff.

    Re: (gcoxvb)

thats what it is Black collage reunion week, just like they used to do in Atlanta ( 10-15 years ago) Not a fun thing for a light skinned person. as for fishing how deep is the river down there? and where would a person put in and not get grounded. I would love to fish some of the black water and cypress fields since I fish usually barren lakes ( no grass and such only blow downs and docks and deep flooded trees) seeing you have a 21 toon where do you put in and also is there maps of the area lakes( did not know of any along the river past the hill) and river? thanks for any info. Steve

    Re: (lkhartwl)

I usually put in at Millstone landing on the Savannah River which is in Hardeeville very close to I-95 just off HW 17. Very good ramp, most of our local tournaments are there. You can go up river to some great backwater lakes or go down river to more tidal areas. There are quite a few good landings depending what areas of the river you want to fish. The Navionics Hotmaps chips have a pretty good layout of the river and the backwater areas but it lacks the super detail that the big lakes have. Some of the tidal areas east of the I-95 bridge can be tricky to run at low tide but the main river has good depth and you can run pretty safe if you use common sense. I would be glad to show you around the river and put you on a few fish sometime. The lakes on Fort Stewart are the big fish lakes I was mentioning and you can only use an electric motor. You can put your bass boat in the ones that are close to the main road but if we have had alot of rain you are better off loading up the john boat in the back of the truck to tackle some of tank trail ruts that can be created. I predict that another state record besides George Perry's lunker will be coming from one of those lakes in the near future. Let me know when you will be down.
