2000 Evinrude 200 HP concealed control cable installlation

    Hi All.

I had to replace the control and can't figure out how the cable goes back on. From what I remember, all I did was remove the single screw and slid the cable through it.

As you can see from the image, there's a bottom piece to this that can slide up and down. The problem is it doesn't get tight enough. I don't think I lost any parts to this.

You are missing the plastic barrel on the cable. The cable clamp is a 2 piece clam shell. It will separated and then the cable is inserted into the clamp then they are put back together and attached to the plate. The plate end is on the right side in this picture.

Mines a little different. If you notice the clamp actually as 3 pieces. There's the metal piece on the bottom (which isn't included) and then the plastic that goes on top of the metal piece has 2 pieces. The lower plastic piece fits inside the larger one and is curved to match the roundness of the cable.

I don't remember there being a barrel on it when I disconnected the cable. Isn't the barrel fixed in place?

The round cable barrel is missing, I've circled it, check your other cable to verify. The ones I posted are standard OMC control cables.

I have a hot foot so there is only one cable going to the control. Can I get a replacement barrel?

Look at this drawing items 43 and 44 are the clamps the control/throttle cable is placed inside the two clamps.

It doesn't matter if you use a hot foot or hand control. The barrel on the cable fits inside the hot foot or hand control. If you look at the hot foot it will tell you where it is used either OMC or Merc

I have part 43 & 44 but I also have the part circled. It sort of looks like it could be half a barrel. Although it doesn't look like it was broken. Strange...

That bottom part is 1/2 of the cable barrel. Remove that then then new cable with go inside 43 and 44. You can't replace the barrel.
