They sure sell a bunch of them, and seems most owners are pretty happy with them. I dont see the need to carry on a twenty year ago reputation bash on them.
After reading about the knee pressing on the side of a Nitro and all the crunching sounds that supposedly emanated from said hull I decided to conduct a little hull pressing test for myself at the local BPS.
To date, I have pressed on 4 different Nitros from the Z21 down to a Z7 and have yet to see, feel or hear anything abnormal from any of the hulls. Certainly NO crunching sounds. No deflection that could be detected by the naked eye. When I pressed my knee into the sides of the boats no motor fell off and no trolling motor shorted out or fell off and the graphs didn't erupt in a ball of flames.

There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.
Hi Mike.
To each his own. If you want a Nitro go buy a Nitro. I personally think they are a lower quality boat that is very attractive to people not looking to spend $60-80k on a new bassboat. Are they a bad boat, I don't think so. Would I own one, yes if it were given to me, would I buy one...no. I don't think anyone who is looking at buying a Ranger, Basscat, Phoenix, Allison, Bullet etc will be cross shopping a Nitro. Those are the facts. Just as there is always a place for Hyundai and Kia, there's always a place for Nitro.
All of this sounds like the threads where NO ONE ever shops at Bass Pro Shops but secretly they do....all the time.
It's just not vogue to actually admit that you like a Nitro or actually own one or yes I shop at BPS.
IF Nitros were as bad as a lot of people say they are then BPS couldn't sell them and wouldn't sell them. EVERY boat brand has had their share of problems, EVERY ONE of them. My Dads first Ranger developed a hook in the hull just from sitting on the trailer and the boat was only 8 months old. Did Ranger take care of it, yes they did. 100% free of charge to include round trip gas, hotel for 3 days plus 3 meals a day for my Dad and me. Plus I got to ride in the boat with Forrest L Wood himself. As a youngster that was an awesome experience.

Hi Mike.
Agree--it just gives some guys something to do I guess. Not sure of any other reason for the bashing especially if you have never owned one to have the personal experience with them--no fight in this--never owned a Nitro--have ridden and fished out of a couple and I have no complaint about them-they have treated their owners that I know well ok![]()

According to Consumer Reports that Kia you referenced has surpassed all American made vehicles in reliability and rated Midsized "Best Overall".
I'm not bashing Kia at all, I spent years in the car business and know that Kia has come a long way and actually makes a good car. My point is no one shopping for Merecedes and BMW is also pulling into the Kia dealership to compare the 3. If you have the money and in the market for a luxury car or boat, you don't look at Kia or Nitro. Although there is nothing budget about a car or boat, those 2 are the budget brands like it or not.
[QUOTE=Capt Ray;8676948]Capt Ray that is no big deal anymore since most everything is being outsourced to foreign soil. Saw where Buick is now importing their small SUV--envision I think--back to this country from China where they re assembling it.. nice thank you to the American taxpayer that saved their backside from going under a few years ago. I would rather buy a KIA than a Buick from China. BBC needs to boycott GM instead of Bass Pro--JMO
They are the best boat on the water. Just ask any Nitro dealer.
My 2 cents. the nitro brand has come a long way since the tracker marine crossover mentality 20years ago. But having known some people at basscat and ranger for some years now, the overall quality is not the same, vendors for a lot of these boat companies are the same therefore they are getting a lot of the same products they use to build the boat right down to the material to build and flake the hull. Basscat is the only company that uses a different brand of hull material. I think in my mind regardless of brand and price point is service after the sale, that's where nitro is lacking. Maybe the price point is the catalyst for great customer service. nitro as a boat company still has horrible customer service from what I've observed. A good example is a friend of mine flip flopped between triton and ranger for years based on the dealer he was associated with changed franchises a few times over the years. The guy is a tour level angler. Fishing the upper tier BASS and FLW circuits for over 20years and making plenty of money doing it. He had multiple issues with the hull on the nitro, to the degree of the motor almost tearing off the transom, dealers hands were tied, did nitro do anything to fix it? That would be a big fat no. needless to say he's back in a ranger after one season in the nitro. Had several people in a club I used to fish in that had a large number of them with 882nx series boats, half the guys spent the season as a back boater while their boat was in the shop for an issue. Now as far as ranger is concerned, everyone I fish with or against has had quite a few issues with their less than 5 year old boat, a few guys have had their entire hull rebuilt, or top caps redone all the expense of ranger, point is ranger DID take care of their customers regardless of the issue, I was a second owner of a basscat and they bent over backwards for any issues I had or questions with problems. Seems to me maybe guys have a stigma about nitro for viable reasons, would I buy one, sure, but I think I know what I'm getting, a price point boat with marginal customer service, again regardless of the price point, if you're spending money on an investment of that degree, I'd say some service would be in order.
No fires or short circuits because they batteries aren't in em yet!
The boats are not "unsafe".....they are just acceptable. That's all. They are mechanically as reliable as Mercury, MinnKota, Attwood, etc. same parts at other boats. It's the craftsmanship, of lack there of, that makes a Nitro a less desirable boat. The longevity of the hull? Yeh....it will be floating in 20-30 years....just like others. It will be faded, cracked, warped, and floating.

So would I. I dont think i could be arrogant enough to be a Ranger owner (not all i have met some very friendly down to earth owners) but in general the attitude of owning some brands is simply amazing. And what cracks me up is most of these guys that know so much about whats better than what as far as "quality materials and components" couldnt tell you which end of the wrench to put on a bolt. Some of this is just pure arrogance but those same people are always right and have a forehead about 6" thick anyway.
