    visiting next week... Saltwater recommendations??

I'll be in Orlando next week 2 Oct- 9 Oct with my wife and another couple. We're thinking of doing a saltwater charter for a day. I've always wanted to do Tarpon fishing but I guess this isn't the best time of year for it. Bottom line is who is a good guide to go with and what would be the targeted game fish? How has the saltwater fishing been with the storms coming through?

Check out http://www.floridasportsman.com. The East Central section covers Port Canaveral down to Sebastien Inlet. Ask them boys, they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

GadGetter, I would think that the west coast, Tampa Bay south would be a better bet for some Tarpon fishing but if your hearts not set on Tarpon, Check in to a Snook fishing trip, You wont be dissappointed! And their plentiful on both sides of the state! If you were going furter south I might could hook you up with my Brother in Law, He's down in Ft Myers and is one of the best Snook fishermen around!

If you could make it all the way down South the poons are chewing in Everglades National Park. I got this 67" yesterday on a live finger mullet!

Well I couldn't get that far south. :( I did get to go fishing out of the New Port Riche are with Capt Rob http://www.gianttarpon.com/ UNFORTUNEATELY we got about 10 minutes out of the dock and we hit a rock (or crab trap). It cracked the lower unit and we were basically dead in the water. We had to get towed back into the docks. Well anyways the next day we got to fish with Capt Al (a friend of Rob's who was taking the day off from chartering). Al was nice enough to take us out last minute. I didn't get to catch any "Poons" even though there were supposedly a few "juvies" around. I did get to see a small hammerhead shark swimming around (saw it too late to flip it a bait). And I caught several different species of fish that I've never caught before, none huge but all were fun on light tackle. We (wife, I and another couple) caught: Snook, Redfish, Seatrout, a Ladyfish, and a Goliath Grouper (20lbs or so). The wife wants to go to Discovery Cove in May for her birthday so I may try to get a "Poon" charter then as Rob says he owes us for our busted trip. Oh did I mention we got hung up in the second boat also and the Capt (Al), myself and my bud Hap had to get out and push the boat off? LOL
