Bad water pumps shipped out to marine repair shops and installed.

Went fishing yesterday, for the first time after having my 90 200xp model ve200slese waterpump replaced, decarbonized, new plugs and changed lower unit lube about 3weeks ago.

Started right up, ran great on a 7 mile run, had good water flow. shut it down and fished for an hour. tried to restart no water flow. thaught the thermostats had stuck closed, took them out still no water, so got towed back to the launch.

Took it back to the place that did the work, the mech. said he got a shipment of bad pumps and I was the 7th one to come back in the last 2weeks. the rubber is seperating from the brass insert.

I will find out which brand he used on mine and will get back here and let you all know. I am not mad a the shop it was not his fault. He just got the shipment when he worked on mine.

Did he install a BRP H20 pump kit or an aftermarket impeller?

not shure right at this moment. when I pick it up I will let you know. I believe it is probably an aftermarket impeller not the whole kit. my guess a seirra?

On important items such as carb kits and water pump kits, stick with factory parts.

I thaught that was what he was using but guess I was wrong. figured he is in the buisness long enough and has a really good buisness did not think I would have to question it.

Aftermarket parts are cheaper for a shop to buy than factory parts, so they make more money per job if they charge the customer the same price as factory parts..

If the aftermarket parts were more expensive, or even the same price, as factory parts - who would buy them?
