    Primer Bulb not hard?????

I have a 2001 johnson 175 carb model j175plsig and when I pump the primer buld it never gets hard. If I pump it 5 or 6 times before I start the engine it runs perfect. Even after fishing a spot for 2-3 hrs it will start with just a touch of the key( at the same time the bulb is not hard). I replaced the bulb, nothing still not hard. I see no fuel leaks in any lines- checked and tightened all connection. I have not replaced the fuel filter yet.

Any help would be appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I f it is drinking more fuel than normal I would look at the choke. If this motor has a vro pump you might wanna pull the pulse line off and see if fuel is going there

Primer bulb should not remain hard. If the motor's running fine, why worry?

According to my gps it is getting 3-5 to 4 mpg. As for the vro pump. I think that that is the oil pump? Right. If so there is no gas going into that tank. I put a piece of painters take on the oil level and check it everytime I get back- and it is lower that it started.

Thanks for all inputs on this !!!

The fuel will be going into motor and out prop not back in the tank.

Not that I wanna get smacked by one of them big Ole bad moderators but, if you your engine is a "DI", I don't think your primer ball will stay hard, and if it is a carburetor motor the ball will stay sorter firm but not hard either. The only primer ball that stays hard is the one on the VRO tank. The other ones are kinda-sorta but never, ever collapsed or sucked flat.
I hope this is correct and they don't slap me for butting in.

Re: Primer Bulb not hard????? (javelin01)

Add 1 "viagra" pill per 10 gallons of gas , this should help, just kidding but couldn't resist.

My Dads got the same engine and I had a '99 150hp, same thing, firm but not hard, nothing to worry about.
