07 Etec 115 and Hot Foot problem

    Here's the problem:

When I put the hand throttle down to engage the gear in forward, I can hear the "click" into gear (I think), but when I go to push the hot foot down to give it gas, it doesn't do anything, no reving, nothing, it just idles. I have to put it back to neutral, then put it back into gear then back and forth several times before it responds to the hot foot.

It does this randomly, not sure if it's a motor problem or rigging problem. Please help.

    Model: E115DPLSUC
    Serial: 05172752

    Thanks for your input!

Sounds like a rigging issue with the throttle cable not being adjusted properly so the throttle cam clears the roller.
Remove the motor cover and look on the stbd (drivers side) of the powerhead. Move the hot foot and you will see a throttle cam that touches a roller that moves the throttle position sensor linkage. The roller shouldn't touch the throttle cam when the hot foot is in the full-off position (idle). If the roller is touching the cam the tps voltage will be too high. If the key is turned to the on position and the tps voltage is above normal idle voltage the engine will only idle and will not accelerate. If this is the case, adjust the trunnion on the throttle cable until there is clearance between the throttle cam and roller when the hot foot is @ idle.

Re: 07 Etec 115 and Hot Foot problem (Sportwin)

Thank you sir for the reply. I understand the concept of what needs to be done but I've never peeked inside the engine yet so I'm not sure of the parts you're referring to

I'll take a look and push both the hand/hotfoot throttle to see what moves and try to understand what you're talking about. If it gets too hard, I'll try to post some pictures with arrows :)

    Thanks again!

This is in the full off position (engine off). I tried to label things since I'm not sure what parts you're referring to. Does this look right?

When I push the hotfoot down, #3 moves to the right (towards the bow).

Another thing I noticed is that when it started to happen again, I just idled for about 5 minutes in gear and tried to push the throttle, then all of a sudden started to work again.

    Thanks!

Follow #4 back to the thumb wheel, loosen the bolt and retract #4 until it reaches its stop and there is a gap between #2 and #3.

    Nice picture by the way.

ELGIN, Very interesting. I have the identical issue on my 2004 75 e-tec. Believe it or not, I only have about 40 hrs on it. This is intermittent and annoying let alone dangerous. The problem starts where is won't come out of gear, I have to shut it down with the key and then upon restart, I get no throttle. What is the gap dimension you mention?

As large as the linkage allows, if you cant get yours out of gear I would check the throttle linkage for catching on something or binding also.

So I took her out yesterday after making your suggested adjustments and it worked everytime! Did not bog a single time. Many many thanks Elgin and Sportwin!

    Elgin,
I adjusted the gap between 2 and 3 in the picture as suggested and it works great. Thanks for the help.....
