Headed down the the G in the morning for 4 days. Has the topwater bite gotten any better? Any reports of any good fishing? Thanks![]()

We just got back and it was horrible! We caught only 7 fish in 2 days. Only one was over 15". It's only my 2nd time there though. May very well be my last.![]()
Daniel, you hit the lake at about the toughest as I have ever seen it. Plan you a trip back in the spring for the big catches
Very tough fishin right now. Give it a little more time and things should pick up. The topwater frog bite is really hit and miss. Or like was stated above plan a trip in the spring time! Or wait till we get some good rain and some clouds and it may turn the bite on better. Blue bird sky's all day, schooling fish was very tough to impossible to find. Good luck!

I may do that. We took my 9yo son. He's crazy about fishing and fished HARD for 2 days and only caught one fish today on a frog. He fished yesterday non stop from daylight until just before dark and never caught a fish. He didn't want to stop then. I may have to take him back for spring break. I may need to hire a guide to take us out for one day so I can learn how to fish the lake. We don't have grass here and it really is intimidating.

I would be glad to help you guys out over there. I am not a guide but, I do fish the lake at least twice a week
Thanks! I may take you up on that in the spring.![]()
Guntersville can be a very humbling fishing experience. You will read reports of guides catching fish non stop all day and go and you can't even catch a cold.
I have done it so many times I hardly even go to g-ville anymore. And I am much closer to it than you guys are.
We're going back over there for the 2nd time. 1st time was 2nd week of June it was very hot & crowded and we caught fish just about every where we went and on everything we tried....We will be there the last week of Oct. Hope we hit it right, but you never know 'till you go.. about 4.5 hr. drive. And maybe the crowd will be thinned out some.
Be nice to have an idea of what they're doing from real people....all guides catch 50 +5# every day!!! LOL
We'll be the only 2 on the lake wear'n Clemson Tiger orange...CYA

I've been there 3 times in the last 3 years. Probably caught 10 keepers...total.I've always caught a lot of fish, just not big enough to keep. I would never go back there if it wasn't for SEBCOG, a BassCat tournament that's held there every year. And I know how to fish grass beds. I fished the natural lakes of northern Indiana for many years.

Of course I talk to myself...sometimes I need expert advice.
Yes, the lake can be very humbling at times and I admit it took me 3+years of hard fishing on it to learn it well and what to look for. To me, the lake is not a great pattern lake but, more a ''certain area'' lake. You can find a productive piece of grass the size of your boat and sack them but, if you move 20ft to the left or right of that area......not a sniff
Wow, I was half way planning on coming this weekend. I think I'll wait till the end of the month to consider coming down.
i read somewere that tva is doing what they call mosquito control, they are lowering the water a foot then on the weekends they will raise it back up a foot, it supposed to wash all the skeeter eggs up on the bank, to me i think its just a way they are breaking up the mats.. may be wrong but i know alot of the grass i fish during the week is under water on the weekends..
got home today, the fishing was just as reported...awful![]()
we got to the state park on sunday around 10 and headed out, no clouds, lots of sun, high winds, high 80's air temp, fished some main lake mats just out in the main channel from the park with not even a blow up. moved into some pockets fishing cb, topwater, and worms, nothing. headed to the area of the first bridge in n. sauty. fished a hump and around the bridge, nothing..found some fish busting on bait that was blown up around the bank near the bridge, tried everything, no takers, headed back around the park and fished till about 1, no fish. headed back out about 5:30 to the mat we started the day on, had a few blow up on the frog in the mats, started fishing a buzz bait on the edges and caught 1 about 3.5lbs, had several more blowups before dark
day 2 bluebird skies, we did alot of the same with no takers until the evening caught another one about 3lbs on a buzzbait on the edge of a mat near the state park
day 3 we headed to the dam at light, lots of clouds, fished everything in several areas with not a bite then headed back to the park area again with no fish. went back out about 2 and fished a mat just past the bends above n. sauty. clouds gave way to high sun again hooked a 4lb+ fish on a lizard on the edge of a mat in the main lake that shook off at the boat. fished the same (very large) mat till dark, about 1 hour before dark the bite turned on around the edges on a watermelon red ribbit, caught 3 or 4 more and had twice as many blow up.
all in all the fishing was bad and we couldnt get on anything except for a small window before dark on the edges of the mats, everyone we talked to reported pretty much the same, some older guys staying near us in the cabins said they have been fishing the lake for 20+ years and this is the worst they have ever seen it
Fished there last week for two days (all day each day) and between my partner and me 8 fish total. Tough!! But I still love Guntersville.

Hate to hear it's tuff, but maybe week after next they'll do better....I hope'n for a frog bite but can stand a pitch'n bite or Crankbait bite and if they mess w/ me I'll beat the boat docks!!! LOL We fish flexible, which is a good since we don't know no better..LOL
I got a thing on my mind that used to work really good @ Murray when it had hydrilla....if they won't come UP & play I'll go DOWN and get them...NEVER GIVE UP!!! & the first one you got to fool is yourself....CYA
