    Where to stay in Guntersville/Scottsboro

    Hi All,

I'll be fishing the Big Bass Splash on Guntersville in May and need some ideas on affordable places to stay? I know the tournament is launching in the Scottsboro area and I'm not sure how practicle it would be to stay in Guntersville. I've got ex-inlaws in Florence, but I've never been to the Guntersville area so other than doing a hotel search, I don't know what the area has to offer. I'm meeting a buddy from Florida there and we basically need somewhere to sleep and shower...plus hopefully a working TV. When I lived in Florida, there were fish camps at most of the lakes that had cabins and trailers you could rent and I'm wondering if there are places like that as well on Guntersville?

    Thanks for any info!

    Rob

OK, looks like the Big bass Splash is going out of Goosepond. You can try the Day's Inn in Scottsboro. Ask for a 1st floor room on the back of the motel. They have long parking stalls and electric plugs for charging. It ain't fancy, but it is next door to the Western Sizzlin and down the street from Ruby Tuesday, McDonalds, a Chinese buffet, and a good traditional Mexican restaurant (Buenavista). It's about a 12-15 minte drive from Goosepond - but unless you want to camp at Goosepond itself (see http://www.goosepond.org/camping.htm), it's about as close as you're going to get. Goosepond does have some lodging - see http://ahttp://www.goosepond.org/lodging.htm

If it was later in the year, you'd be welcome to stay at my place. My wife and I are retiring there around July! Hope this helped.

I'd never heard of this place before. I just looked at their website. Looks very nice, especially the garages and the prices!! Mapquest says it's about 15 miles from Goose Pond. That's actually a couple miles closer than from my house!

Awsome info so far guys! I really appreciate it. Everything you have suggested is falling in our price range, so something should work out. Once again, thank you for your tremendous help!

    Re: (diverrob1225)

    Hey Doc,

Creekstone is a pretty nice place. My club had a tournament there last month and it worked out very well. When I originally asked for help, I didn't know that was where we were staying. Since they are already completely booked for the Big Bass Splash, does anyone know about Ossa-Win-Tha Resort? The buddy I am fishing with is going to be a Marshall for the Bass tournament the weekend before and has already booked at the resort for then. Just wondering how nice the place is?

    Thanks again for your help!

No idea on the Ossa-Win-Tha Resort. I sent you an IM however.

I stayed at the State Park last weekend but it will be too far for you to travel to put in. The Day's Inn seems to cater to fishermen. There is a new Hampton Inn that is on the south end of the lake but isn't on the water. I put in at a small (but nice) ramp beside the Holiday Inn right beside the rescue squad. They had boat parking and plug-in's at the hotel. There was also a gas station in front of the Holiday in where a lot of people had their boats parked and plugged in. After launching I just pulled my truck into an empty lot behind the rescue squad beside the ramp and had the gravel lot to myself. Spinnerbaitkid's dad told me about it. It is a good place to put in if the other ramps are crowded. It can acomodate 2 to 3 vehicles putting in at once.
