    Guru's - I need some help diagnosing my Motor - '91 V6 Limited Edition

    Model: VE200SLEID - Evinrude V6 200 Limited Edition

It has been like this since I got it (had it for almost 2 years now)... the issue is with the idling and going slow.

First off, it runs and idles on the muffs fine, but...

In the water, I can't get the motor to keep idling or stay running in gear at less than 1100-1200 RPMs. It will give me an average of 5-8 seconds of idle, then it quits. Upon acceleration, sometimes it bogs down and stalls, and if I bump the key it will pick up and go (primer seems to be working). WOT there is no issues what so ever. I do have a water separator and my mechanic suggested I by-pass it because the fuel has that much longer to travel, and my V6 likes gas, would that be wise to do in this day and age?

Anyhow, I want to get this fixed - it's becoming embarrassing.

    - Carbs were done last year - and I run Seafoam every 2-3 tanks.
    - Inline fuel filter was replaced a couple days ago.
    - Brand New Champion Plugs @ .030
    - Mechanic supposedly did the timing and idle adjustment, but I'm starting to doubt it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance guys,

    Jay

At idle, does it spit or cough and die or does it just die?

Sometimes I get a "Shick" kinda sound - nothing consistent though.

May be a tad lean, try moving the throttle roller out away from the throttle cam about 1/16 of an inch.

Thanks ELGIN, I'll give it a shot this weekend.

Just in case, is there anything else I should look at while I have the boat out this weekend if that doesn't work out?

    Thanks again

ELGIN...I don't know what the recirc valves do and I may be going in the totaly wrong direction with advice so please correct me if I am wrong.

    Idle issues could be recircs.

Thanks guys, I just did a search on the recircs and found lots of similar issues.

I'll start with the throttle roller and go from there.

ELGIN: how much of a throttle adjustment would be too much? Would I stop at about 1/8" or keep going?

Again, I really appreciate all the help.

All the adjustment will do is give your engine a bit more timing before throttle.

If 1/8 does not help there are other issues.

I haven't had a chance to adjust the roller or anything yet, however I filled up with 89 octane fuel last time out and the motor idled allot better, not perfect but still better.

Before I get my hands dirty, I just wanted to post up this pic and make sure every thing looks good to you guys. The roller lines up with the mark when the throttle is in the idle position. The pic is taken with the throttle wide open. oops.

Also, while I'm at it, can you tell what VRO/OMS system this is by the pick?

    Thanks again,

    Jay

Your motor has a broken throttle roller. Put a new one on.

Thanks Seahorse. I had a feeling it wasn't right.

Would you happen to know what the part # is for the roller? Or is it something ChampionMan's hose trick can fix?

    Thanks again,

    Jay

Champmans hose trick will work on that.
