Garmin Transducer Signal Lost

Yesterday, while running in the rain, my 93sv lost all sonar. It kept flashing back to the home screen and giving me an error message that it lost signal to the transducer. Even after putting the boat back on the trailer after the rain had stopped, I disconnected it, powered everything down, reconnected, and still got the same error. This morning I put it back in and it seems to be working now, although I haven't put it in the water yet.

Has anyone else had this problem before? I have to blame it on the rain, as it is the first time that has happened and also the first time I've really made a run in rain with the unit. Probably not a coincidence. That's pretty concerning though if Garmin's quick connect mount cannot stand up to rain.

I had this happen once after running some very rough water. The transducer cable came lose where the wires connect not at the quick mount.

I checked my wiring and everything was still connected tight. Nothing changed between yesterday when it wasn't working and this morning when it started working again, other than that it wasn't raining and everything had time to dry out.

If you're sure it was tight in the mount, then check the cable for kinks, breaks, rubs, crushed, etc.

Could be a bad transducer too.

Mine did it also in the rain. When it dried out it was working.

It's working fine when I plugged it in this morning. I don't subscribe to coincidences. The fact that I have never had a single problem with it until I was running on plane across the lake in the rain for the first time is pretty telling.

Rain shouldnt be an issue. Did you guys leave off the O-ring seals?

I don't believe I left anything off. Do you have a picture of what it should look like with those on? I still have the box so if there was anything else I left off then it should still be in there.

see if the transducer is turn on. I hit the wrong thing one time and it turned off my transducer

No, I was getting an error message that that kept flashing the graph back to the home screen. Turning the transducer off is a regular option.

On my 7610, all the cable connections have a small O-ring to seal them up when they are attached. I am assuming yours has something similar. Its got an IPX rating of something like 1 meter for 30 minutes, so it has to be sealed some way.

That said, on second thought, a little rain water getting into a plug connection should not be able to cause the problem you're having. A wet plug will corrode faster and could eventually cause an intermitent or total failure, but the failure will be due to corrosion - not the water. Fresh water on good connections wont interrupt the signal or stop power from flowing to the transducer.

The only way water could cause that would be if its getting into the MFD housing and messing with the electronics, but that shouldnt be possible either. The socket will be sealed. You can throw your mfd over board and as long as it doesnt go below 3 ft under and you get it back in 30 minutes, it should be fine.

Look closely at the plugs and sockets for corrosion, bent pins etc. This cant be a rain issue unless its been going on a long time and you have corrosion or something is broken.

Gotcha. I will check everything out again, but I didn't not see anything bent or that looked bad. The unit is only 4 months old, I take the graph off after every trip and stow inside, the mount gets the little rubber cover put back on every time, and the boat stays covered at home. And like I said, I've never had a single issue with it until that happened out of nowhere.
