Broken lower plastic skin ETec 90

I have an 05 90HP ETec, model E90DPLSOR serial 05110886. I've just noticed that on the plastic skins around the lower part of the engine, starting below the top cover and extending down toward the lower unit, the plastic around the front 4 bolts has broken, and the two side "skins" are spreading apart in front. The engine has never been in any kind of collision, and the rear-side 4 bolts are fine. Since I'm into the extended warranty, I checked and the FPC policy doesn't cover me. The new parts from BRP are ungodly expensive. Has anyone else had this problem, and can it be fixed with epoxy or some other method?

Sorry, had to, you might try some epoxy.

One fellow (elsewhere) suggested PVC pipe cleaner and adhesive. Are those skins made of PVC, I wonder?

Ok, it's several months later and I've tried.

    1) "Crazy Glue"
    2) PVC treatment and adhesive (2 step)
    3) JB Weld
    4) Clear packing tape

    The first three fail quickly.

The packing tape lasts about 2 days on the water and looks like the Beverly Hillbillies rent out the engine to me.

I've pleaded with my dealer for some "good will" help from BRP. They promise me an answer soon.

A whole damn summer lost because of broken (expensive) plastic.

I hear you on the ungodly expensive part. Mine cracked also , but on only one side. I believe I can find the aftermarket guy direct that mine came from for about half price if you are interested. Let me know and I will do some digging.

    Hi, and thanks!

Yes, I'd love to know of a cheaper source. I'm still pleading for help from BRP via my dealer, but nothing is happening fast.

    Re: (BlackSilver)

that is a common problem, the material it is made out of is Acrylic, it can be repaired and it will look just like new, the guys that repair acrylic baths can do it, it is also sort of sucessful to use fibreglass, as long as the surface is roughed up first, just glue it together in the right place, and glass from the inside.
