    INFO.

Hey guys, need some info on my 1995 150 johnson faststrike. I dont feel i am getting out of it what it can really do. I am turning 4900 rpms at about 58mph gps
it is on a 1995 stratos 284, 18 ft boat. 3 blade ss prop 24, compression is 120 psi each cylinder. The reason is over the last year i have noticed a drop in horse power and top end speed probably about 6 mph, it just seems sluggish, new plugs, new prop, i have a family memeber running a 97 javelin 18 ft same motor and set up and he is running 5800 rpms at bout 68 to 70 mph gps, What can i do to jump up my performance?

    Re: INFO. (bassfishindeerhuntin)

My 150 intruder is on the same boat and I only get 4900 rpms hits about 59 gps.
pad height on mine is 5 3/4 my motor needs moved up but to move it more than 3/4 inch I'll have to move the motor up on the jackplate. I need to do it just havent had time.

Thnks, it has always usually run around 5300 rpm right around in there. i have read alot about how these engines can really get alot out of them, not looking for scary fast you know just enough to be competitve in tournaments

I would check your pad height if you have always had the same rpms and speed

Check the basics first, compression would be a good start, might want to decarb depending on what oil you are running.

Do you change the gear lube on a regular basis?

Is there any fuel on the outside of the carbs?

    Re: INFO. (ELGIN)

gear lube changed yearly, use the evinrude/johnson brand oil, compression is 120 psi each, and there is some oil present outside of carbs, not fuel, and i noticed that it uses more oil than it use to,

Is the oil on the carbs from the bowl gasket surface down?

It may be that the carb bowls are leaking and if they are they can suck air.

would that cause the lack of power or top end and rpm drop?

    Re: INFO. (bassfishindeerhuntin)

Get some BRP Engine Tuner and follow the directions, and yes, unless you have been running XD-100 it will need a decarb.

Yes, the carbs leaking can cause the RPM loss and low top end speed.
