to fill up or not to fill up?

A friend of mine at work bought a brand new beautiful 2012 h51 with a yamaha 4stroke 70 on the back. He asked me why they didnt fill up the gas tank. I asked him how big the tank was and he said 6 gallons. He seemed a little upset that they didnt put at least 3 gallons of fuel in the tank. I told him that if I had bought the boat I wouldve wanted enough fuel to crank it up. Do dealers fill up the tank when you buy a new boat? I would think since he spent 15,000 on a new boat, that they would have given him at least a half tank. What gives? I would understand not filling up a new boat that has a 52 gallon tank, but we are only talking about a 6 gallon tank.

That's a negociated deal for fuel in the boat. Don't expect it.

I don't think it would bother me, I like knowing where my fuel is coming from and how long it has been in the tank. The only way they could make it feasable would be to give you a coupon to a local gas station when you buy the boat, but even then that money will be tacked on to the price somewhere.

Most places only put enough gasa in to run and test the motor on. It's been that way with my bikes. They only had a small amount in them.

If I bought a boat that had gas in the tank I'd pump it out and burn it in my lawn mower. If someone else is buying the gas its going to be the cheapest they can find and if its in a boat who knows how long its been in there. I've been told that something like 80% of powerhead failures can be link directly to poor fuel quality. Especially with the junk thats at the pump these days.
