Tach Not Working 1991 Johnson 175

I have a 1991 Javelin 389F/S with a 1991 Johnson 175 R08567583. I did not take it out at all last year and cleaned it up this past weekend. The motor fires up perfect, however the tach does not move at all, the alarm tone sounds constantly and the voltmeter gauge does not show any reading as well. The battery is fully charged and with a digital volt meter shows a reading of 12.8 volts without the engine running. With the engine running the voltage reading on the battery remains at 12.8. So I'm guessing that my regulator/rectifier has gone bad. I was hoping that it was just some loose wiring under the dash, but don't think so since i'm only getting 12.8 with the motor running. Any suggestions on test i should do before ordering a new regulator/rectifier and does anyone know the part number for the regulator that i need. Thanks for the help. Ryan

Need the model number on that rascal as OMC made two motor styles that year. A 60* and a 90*.

I will go pull every number off the motor in the morning. All I have with me is the serial number and i know it's a 1991 175hp GT. Thank you for all your help.

Just a thought but do you have a surface mount control box?

If so, look at the back of the box below the key and see if there is a plug with three wires.

I don't think i have a surface mounted control box. The key and kill switch are on the dash and the lever control is on the side of the boat. I didn't have a chance to copy down all the numbers off the motor yet, will get them Friday.

Part number is 395204 suggested list $295.00 or a Sierra part # 18-5825 list $239.00. You'll need to pull the flywheel to replace it.

    It's a 1990 model, not a '91
