    Need some feed back

I have a 1999 triton tr19 and a 1999 merc 175 efi..I have put all new electronics and a brand new alum trailer..First and for most i love my boat and it does all i need it to and other then a few scratches its in really good shape.I take care of it the best i can and always keep it mantained and clean. I keep it outside under a carport with a cover on it.Now here is my question right now my motor runs great but when then time comes for it to let go would you re-power or look for a newer used boat?? I hope it doesn't happen anytime soon and that it runs forever but if it does what is my best route..I have talked about it with the wife and she says get a new motor and have a 5 year warranty if something should happen to it..I like the idea of the warranty to..Or i could get a newer used boat and take the chance that i want have any motor or boat issues with it..I would like to buy a brand new boat but the wife is not going for that no way shape or form and with the way things are going in this country don't need a big note like that anyway..So its either buy a newer used boat that more then likely want have a warranty and that i want know much about how it was taken care of an what not or keep the boat that i have now that i know the history on and buy a new mercury 175 pro xs and have the 5 year warranty..Just wanted to see what you guys thought on the matter and what you would do

I think you answered your own question, you love the boat so if and when the motor pops, get a new one. The boat is still going to be just as usable and there is nothing in it to rot so keep it.

sounds like you have been upgrading little by little all along so if the boat is solid and finish still looks good I would repower. It should screem with a 175 ProXs set up right. The boat is tested and true so the motor is what you want warrenty on.

You could even trade in that current motor while it's still working at it's best, get a couple thousand for it towards a new 175ProXS. No point of running the current motor into the graveyard and get nothing for it. Think about re-powering this fall or next spring, start saving up now.

    Re: (ragin_cajun92)

    one thing you might consider

On those year boats the front decks are very narrow
They are fast hulls but personally I would trade some of the speed for a wider front deck

I have been looking for a trade that works for me
and when I evaluate my TR21 that is the one area I find lacking

trading yours in would allow you to come up with one of their wider deck design hulls

I like the layout of my boat and the front deck is good for me..Plus i like that it's on the lighter side and i can hang with the big dogs with a smaller motor..Alot of times i passing guys in my bass club with 200+ hp motors

I repowered with a new Opti. Unfortunately, it was after the old opti blew because of ethanol. I went new instead of a rebuild because of the 5 year warranty.

    Re: (ragin_cajun92)

Went through the re-power issue last year due to a blown 2005 225 Optimax. Had several options, but love the boat. I'll never re-coup the money invested in the new motor, but the fact that the boat had a blown motor made its value less than with a new or good motor. I talked them into a $4500 trade-in value of the old motor which brought the price down by that much. A re-built power head came with a 90-day warranty at the time and was going to cost about $3500 less than a new motor. So my decision was to re-power with a new ProXS and in about two years have a boat either ready for trade in or for private sell with the extended warranty still left on it. That was my trade in time frame and still is.

    Re: (medicpelle)

Lets see....new 175 motor with warranty and a hull that has a good layout, no wood and a lifetime guarantee....hmmmm....$15,000

New boat(a lil bigger than 19 ft), motor etc with warranty with a hull that also has lifetime guarantee...$55,000

speed difference? 0-8 mph depending on motor size
    space difference...a little
    monthly payment difference....ALOT

How much is the new proxs? Could you put on a 200? If so, how much for that? I love my boat too, and would love to just trade the engine when the time comes and slap some new carpet on rather than buy new.

I would love to put a 200 on it but my boat is only rated for max 175.. Plus i'm sure it would be even more of a hand full lol.. If the pro xs 175 is even stonger then my current 175 efi and faster to boot then it will make for a very fun boat as i am running 68-70 mph now as i am getting better with the driving of it.. should make it fun

    Re: (ragin_cajun92)

I have the 2001 TR19 I just got in Oct and not had much time getting used to the "walk" In this economy, everything works, wiring and pumps, trailer, etc all good...I would repower everytime.

That is one reason I got a 10 yr old boat. It came with a 200 Merc EFI and if it blows, a powerhead aint much. The monthly payments difference is unreal compared...

I wanted a Phoenix 721 or 921. My wallet wanted a jon boat. I had to settle in the middle...

    Re: (SkidMark)

I was in the same situation. I have the same boat as u. My 175 efi blew. I debated going back and forth between getting a new pro xs or the old one rebuilt. Lucky for me insurance paid for my blown head and new lower unit. I found a 2011 Pro XS demo with a five year warranty for 8500. It was a no brainer for me seeing how the new motor is only costing me 1500.00 out of pocket. I could have put some more money down and bought a rig around 15k but wouldn't have a warranty on the motor.
