I have a 1990 200 hp evinrude XP. When I first run it the motor surges under load. It is worse at top end. After 5-10 minutes it quits until the next time I take it out. does it sound like the primer bulb? Fuel pump? Air leak?![]()

I feel so damn good I\'d pay $10 for a good HEADACHE![]()
You need to state your engine serial number and model number. Championman or Seahorse will be along to help you.......G
serial # 2496361
model # E200st4es (this is what someone wrote in my service book, but I cant seem to find it on the motor. Where do I look?)

Facing the back of the motor, left side on the mounting bracket

A quick way to check the fuel system is to use a vacuum gauge with a clear fuel line teed into the fuel system between the primer bulb and the engine, at idle you should see no more than 1.5 on the gauge and no air bubbles in the clear line.
thanks i will try this. would water in fuel cause these symptoms? The surging staops after a few minutes and then it runs like a swiss sewing machine.

I also replaced the bulb and it got a little better, but it still surged an me.

Water in the fuel would most likely cause it to run bad at WOT too as the high speed jets are in the bottom of the carbs.
