The core is a little lighter because of what it is made out of. Otherwise, the reels are pretty much identical. I'd take a D7 only because of curiosity. I already have a Core which is great but no one ever complains about the D7 either

Both are great but I'd rather have the Core 100 Mg7.

I like the core just because of the weight. I personally don't understand why the D7 goes for so much.

Try the Exscence DC. May just be the best of the 3 if you are ok with a bit more weight. It is a brilliant caster for distance and control.

I've got one of each and my Core seems to cast a little further with less effort. I added four bearings to the Core's handle knobs so it's now a 9 bearing reel vs the Chronarch 7 bearings.

The D series is my all time favorite reel and will always be. The D7 is an amazing reel, but they bring a premium mainly collectability. Same way with the Core, Especially the 100 MgFV. You can sell a beat to hell D7 or MgFV and it will still bring well over 250 any day.

It's also a tank. I use mine for Frogging. Personally, I don't think you can find a better reel for throwing a frog. Beefy frame, brass 8 gears....

If you are looking for a Core and don't want to spend the money on one, look on eBay for the Metanium MG series. MG 6 gear and MG7 7 gear. It's the JDM version of the USDM Core. Better bearings, 4 in the handle and a different color of course. They can be had with some various amounts of rash for under 150 dollars. Never quite understood why they are not snatched up faster. I have 7 D series so I'm fat on them or I would get another.

If you want a DC without the weight of the Exsence, the Metanium MG7 or MG DC is also out there. It will bring a premium though.

    I own very few core's
    And I'm at 9-10 D7's and 6 D5's I'd I wound buy another one. Just a damn good reel

I myself think the Alum body flex's less on that reel
